Hi question from someone new to 770 (bought one on Ebay the other day)

1) Anyone know how the device goes into 'standby' - i guess there is some sensor to detect when the sleeve is put over the screen

2) Can it also be forced to standby from somewhere in the UI?

3) After a while of inactivity, mine switches off - when I think it should be going into standby. I cant get it to wake up with a touch on the screen or a button press, I have to press and hold power and the machine boots up. I think the battery is fine as it works for extended periods when I am using it, its just standby function seems not to work. Anyone got any ideas why?

Cheers

John

ps: running OS 2006 version 3.2006.49-2

It's a small magnet in the aluminium case.

A short tap on the power key brings up the power menu; the first option (lock screen and keys) is more or less equivalent to the screen cover action (I think the latter also closes network connections on the 770). I don't know of a way to do this without physically hitting a button.

Have you checked your power settings in the control panel? This is a new one for me.

1) There's a magnet in the cover - when you slide the cover on the device senses the magent and goes into standby mode

2) No - the next best is "Lock keys & touchscreen" available via the power key menu

3) Doesn't sound right, it should just disable the screen (and possibly lock it if you've set that option) and awaken when you touch the screen/press a button. How long does it have to be idle before it powers down?

Thanks for your replies - interesting that there is a magnet in the case...

I dont think its a battery problem, as it works happily for a long time when I restart it - it is a decond hand device, though, so maybe there is something wrong with the battery.

anyone tried putting some logging into the shutdown sequence to trap the cause of the shutdown? is there a 'low battery' message which would cause shutdown I could log?

John
