£15 for 3gb - thats insane!! How can Vodafone get away with that.
Tmobile/3 are my only option for Uk networks - the only reasonable data rates.

Speaking of T-Mobile...
I've just been looking at the fine print for the Web'n'Walk (Now "Broadband"?)
deals, which are some of the ones offered by mobilephonesdirect.
Basic Web'n'Walk does not allow:
1) tethering (using phone as a modem) - no surprise here, but a shame!
2) peer-to-peer networking - ok if they mean the common usage of the term!!
3) Instant messaging - now there is no bandwidth justification for that!!
4) VoIP - again, no surprise here,
5) downloading of a small number of file types, including .pdf, .doc, .xml
require the "plus" or "max" accounts, not the basic one.
WHAT? is this no file downloading, or only these types are disallowed?
How can they tell, over, say scp?
Does syncing to my Google calendar count as peer-to-peer (which strictly,
in IP terms, it is), or not? What about the internet dictionary service, or
any number of similar, trivial, protocols that we use all the time
without thinking about them?
Does any one know if this is as bad as it looks, or is it just that their
legal people don't understand (or both :-( )?

I had a t-mob web n walk a while ago, the only actual restrictions i felt were voip, and nimbuzz being blocked. Everything else seemed to work fine, they can't detect tethering etc.
If anyone can afford the upfront cost, the best network to be on is o2, but youd have to buy the n900 either sim free or cheap on t-mob. Then get o2 simplicity 12 months@20 a month, for 800 mins, 1600 texts and unlimited data. It is now really unlimited (no 1gb etc) so as long as you dont abuse it e.g. peer to peer it should be ok. They dont filter nimbuzz either. And you can get £100 off by going through quidco.
On balance i went with the t-mob combi 30+web though to have no upfront costs and not pay for two contracts. so slightly less minutes and 1gb data.

I was hoping that Orange would have some decent contracts with the N900. I have been with Orange since 1997, and do not really want to change, but it looks like I will have to.

Just dont go over your 1gb limit. I synced to google calendar regularly (used a G1).

Do they mean it will be shipped BEFORE that date for delivery on that date, or will they be shipping on that date? Because if shipped on 30th there are no guarantees of a Saturday delivery so it still might not arrive until the 2nd Nov.
I don't see how the 1st would ever make sense however. Surely even a courier is not going to deliver on a Sunday and even if they did, surely that means you still would get it 3rd at the earliest?
That's still just over 3 weeks away regardless of which option so I can't see a day or two making all that much difference. We all will have gone insane long before then after waiting 3 more weeks.
So lets just hope they get stock earlier than expected.
