I searched myself to see the specs of a nokia n900 FR and an US

US = Operating Frequency
Optimized for WCDMA 900/1700/2100
Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900
Optimized for 3G networks on WCDMA 900/1700/2100 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900

FR = Fréquence de fonctionnement
Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/1700/2100
Commutation automatique entre bandes GSM
Mode Avion

It's approximately the same. By deduction, the US nokia will work in France.

But i hope a confirmation

Thank you
Remember that US and France have different keyboard layouts. Also pre-loaded content such as Maps will be different. But if you know how to flash the device, you should be able to get the French version flashed onto your device.

keep delaying it then I'll persuade my girlfriend to pay for it as a festive gift.
then I'll have extra £500 for chocolate Santa's, win win situation IMO

According with the information publicly available there is only a version of the N900 which operates in the frecuencies 900, 1700 and 2100 MHz.

Currently there are three UMTS networks deployed in France; Orange, SFR and Bouygues Télécom, all three in the 2100 MHz band, so the N900, idependently where do you buy it, should work with any of theese networks.

The main difference between a devices purchased in USA and France will be localisation, keyboard layout, and plug pin of the charger provided with the device.

You can buy the device from USA, but you won't get a Frenc keyboard and you will have to buy a charger.

@Peter@Maemo Marketing

Not sure if you're the right person to ask. If I buy a N900 localy and it comes with a physical keymap I don't like. Is there a way to get that replaced an the nokia service at my own cost for a different one? This has been talked about in other threads dealing with the keyboard but I didn't see any obvious responses. Also am wondering if there are any plans for aftermarket keymaps from Nokia for those that might want a different keymap(i.e. dvorak or svorak or anything more exotic).

Thanks Peter for at least sparing a thought for us little guys.

I think that the irritation is from the fact that no official information is around... I'd be happy with a sorry but it's going to be November 20th definately because we're ironing out a couple of issues, but till you spoke we had nothing and even then your comment was fairly vague.

Say for example JUST 2000 people had this preordered... that works out at around $1million of turnover. It's disappointing when a large corporation is that ambivilent to that sort of income/purchasing power.

Luckily I have a non-payment issue on ebay for my N79 so I have time to resolve it before having to shell out for my preorder.

Thanks for your replies Peter. To be honest, i was just about to cancel my order and not buy the N900 at all. Because its just to much of disrespect from Nokia, i mean come on if i have ordered from their official online shop here in Sweden, the least they can do after delaying it so many times is to send an email to ppl who have ordered and tell them about the delay. Instead im following forums all around the internet to get info about the release. Thats to much IMO.
But Peter being here changes stuff, definitely not my disappointment in nokia, but my appreciation for the Maemo team. Take all the time you need, and thanks for being here Peter.
