winSCP on a windows PC to push the files over - just drag and drop.

for the occasional file, bluetooth works as well but more slowly.

--edit-- I mean winSCP

Since there appears to be no solution to just getting access to windows shared files simply in the filemanager, I will probably just switch my desktop back to xp....since I only use it really for watching movies in bed and a few other things.

Solved the problem, I simply turned off password protected sharing... I never saw the setting before and now I can see all of my windows 7 shares just fine.

Let us know if you find it "very unreliable".

I can't believe this is so difficult to do. I am using the N800 while the N900 is being repaired, and bluetooth file sending rarely works. Always tells me the device doesn't like the file type. Trying to find the right cable is tiresome.

What a shame that Windows, Samba, file sharing works so poorly between a Windows PC and the N810. I run Ubuntu on my Desktop which I wire connect to a WiFi access router. When I select folder sharing in Ubuntu the files appear in the N810's File Manager. USB cable is the easiest and Bluetooth file send and receive works well between Ubuntu and the N810. I use Bluetooth for single file transfers and the cable for mass folder transfers because it's faster.

I find that windows sharing between my N800 and 810, and the rest of my machines is fine via windows shares. And I have Windows machines, an Ubuntu laptop, a Mythbuntu server, and a cheapie NAS disk enclosure.

The only thing is that the shares have got to be open without a password as the NITs cannot do password authentication.

I have copied GBs of videos and music files down wirelessly, and it works great for me just about everytime.

Only thing I cannot get working is to launch a video from a share, and have mplayer start playing it automatically.

I've been sorta doing an odd dance with sharing files between my desktop, my iPhone 3GS and my N810. On my non-jailbroken iPhone, I have the Air Sharing app. Fire up my browser on my PC/Mac/Linux machine, upload the file to the wifi connected iPhone. Then from the N810, I download from the iPhone onto my N810.

With that said... that's how I do it. Would love an application like Air Sharing on my N810. But that... doesn't exist. But it should.
