Have nokia given an official reason for the delay?

gnome invasion in their factories..

sorry, I don't have much more to add

As far as I know there's no official reason, apart from them wanting to squash the last few bugs; something that I highly encourage...better to have a good device a few weeks late, than a rushed job and being disappointed...

Truly doubt that they will. Most companies rarely discuss minor delays as such anyway.

If it were 3+ months, I'd halfway expect a reason then. But 30 days? It could be something as minor as a misspell on the packaging.

Delays are understansable, but if it doesnt ship by mid november i'll camcel my preorder and wait.
Reasons:
-Will start to suspect its more than a few software bugs. Perhaps hardware related
-may as well wait for the non-fanboy reviews to confirm the real life battery usage and stability.
- might as well wait for the second batch to fix any potential hardware issues on first batch
-some USA carrier might annouce subsidy or an at&t US version may follow shortly
- the reviews of droid,hd2 might be spectacular. Who knows?
-try it instore before i buy, i might have been to excited when i first tried it at the flagship store. My only gripe was the weight. Theres no way you can use this one handed on the nyc subway unless you have a seat.

Lasty, with the plastic screen will really prefer a screen protector. Will want to confirm that a screen protector will not destroy the slick touch experience

I sincerely doubt they will give an official reason. Though I did see hints somewhere about improving power management, which is good news.

I dom't suppose they'll be making big hardware changes at this point though.

Some people say its related to an easter egg. We have been unable to confirm this rumor. Blahblah.

I made that up. Seriously: delay was already a rumor. Peter Schneider from Maemo Marketing repeated N900 ship in october in select markets. This statement allows flexibility. However, a few days ago Peter had to revise the statement from october to november, citing feedback from 300 developers (Maemo Summit people). That is as official as it gets...

Grow some muscles

Pure speculation. Maybe they fix USB OTG? Who knows.

IIRC Peter did not mention specifically either software or hardware as reason.[/EDIT]

I personally think its a function of getting supply right. They probably have underestimated how popular this device is going to be, and want to make sure that they can fulfill.

There is also a need to get the eco system in place, once again I suspect that they did not originally plan on this being handled by the carriers, but now want to put this in place.

hehe all made up by me, but seems plausible.

when i called, they said there were very laege number of preorders.

Not sure that would be the delay...but if it gives them more tme so that AFTER i get it set up, i dont need to do a software update a few weeks later and reset up my entire device.....ill wait.

If you are waitin for an att device w/this, then stay tuned to the ftc website for units getting the ok with att freqs. Otherwise...it aint coming.

And if it hasnt already been given the ok by now, then it will be a while.
