no quality difference between made in china/europe/us. phones go through testing procedures and go through testing before sales.

peanutbutter costs 4 euros in sweden. 80 cts in poland. reason? not because the peanuts are better in sweden

Is it possible to buy the N900 now as part of a devkit or by some other means? (I'm in Australia)

nope. you'd think they'd offer the phone for developers - much like how Google offered the G1 to developers separately from t-mobile, but alas, that's not the case here.

When all is said and done, the N900 is already a devkit

I mean that in a good way..... I hope.
