as far as i know hamachi doesn't work on the internet tablets. you'd have to talk to someone in the dev community or one of the hamachi developers as the IT hardware is not supported by hamachi.

You are wrong. There is a build of hamachi for the N770 (not sure if it works on N800). You can get it straight from the Hamachi developers. There is a thread about how to install it on a 770 on ITT already.

I use Hamachi all the time on my N800 -- ssh, VNC, you name it. Works great. Nokia ought to bundle it and put control for it in the GUI somewhere.

You can create a Virtual Private Network, which is just what it says it is, with any other computer also running Hamachi.

So in Hamachi (look up the commands), you create a network, give it a name and a password. Then another computer running Hamachi, anywhere on the internet (and generally, it doesn't matter if it's behind a router or firewall) can join that network by name and password. At that point, you can communicate from one machine to the other. This communication is encrypted.

Each machine in Hamachi is allocated an address on a pretend internet (to your device, it looks like a different network connector). So in Hamachi, you can find out the addresses of other machines on the networks you're connected to.

What this means is: I leave Hamachi running on my home computer, along with a VNC server. When I'm out with my N800, I just need an internet connection (I leave Hamachi running), and I can use VNC to my home computer's Hamachi address, and be on VNC with it, totally encrypted.

I also use it to play Rise of Nations with a friend. Rather than use their matchmaking service, we just both run Hamachi, join the same network, and use each other's Hamachi address in the "Join LAN game" mode.

If I can ever get the damn thing to recognize the server, I ought to be able to stream music from my Linux box running mt-daap, or really, connect up to any service at all.

Mostly, I use it for ssh and VNC.

Hamachi is *awesome*.
