hardware-wise we should expect what is already found in the pre-production units loaned during the summit (unless the release date has been pushed back into 2010).
Likely, but you never know if they had the same suspicions from early september or even before. They could have had modified units in-house well before the october release date and were just weighing the pros/cons of switching to unit rx51-502 instead of rx51-501 (or whatever) for production. They then could have said, "as long as rx52-502 can be in production by the holidays, it's worth it. Spend October doing extra QA on rx52-502, then we'll release to the public in mid-november".

I can dream.

why anyone would expect anything else than a sales talk on these "official chats" is beyond me.
I lived in London for years and LOVE Indian food as a result. This Nokia rep sounds like he may be from one of those call centers where the quisine comes from... India

Or the dude is on quota to sell phones. A good test would be to call it Ovi maps "9x". If he said "9x" would be on it, then you have your answer

EXACTLY. VELOCIRAPTOR STRATEGY. Several people get on and probe for weakness/truth. Out of that the answer will fall.

In the rep's defense.... he could be equating compass with GPS...

Then again, he seemed very specific in the text log.....

I think this deserves a few more "...": ...........

Or the dude
Would you mind pointing out exactly what in the thread makes it sound like he is from India (and not a sales rep from, say, Arizona)?

And it's cuisine, not quisine.

The "quisine" part is more due to my meaty paws on a G1, and my affliction for quiznos perhaps??

The most common call stations are in India, so if Nokia is farming out for increased support, there could be active support teams in India. We use them at the company I work for.

Point is just because someone is speaking with "Nokia" or any company, does not mean you are getting a complete and accurate represention of the product and may not even be an on site sales or support rep.

Update, I am hungry now- think I will get some Roganjosh or Tikka Masala Even where I live we have good Indian c/quisine

Actually, Tikka Masala was an invented dish by the English, but it is still very good

a) If your 'meaty paws' makes you hit q instead of c I'm surprised about the accuracy in the rest of the post.

b) I'm fully aware of the outsourcing trends, I think everyone is. I guess my, unanswered, question was what made you think it sounded like he was from India. Not all call centers are in India.

How would it make you feel if I based on what could be conceived as a veiled racist comment - and poor spelling of 'fancy words' - said that it sounds like you come from some southern hick-state?

Hmmm. A veiled racist comment? Not meant that in the least. As far as a southern hick- well I AM one and proud of it. If you check, you will notice I edit a lot of my posts due to my typing on G1 KB.

You seem sensitive and jump to quick conclusions..... are you a liberal or may have been bitten by the manbearpig?

Or just sensitive to spelling mistakes and lack of iambic pentameter in their posts? My background is Economics and Marketing- not English

Easy, people. Back on topic. For what it's worth, the technical support guy I just talked to was definitely not from India

I asked him if there were hardware changes between the pre-production and production n900 models. He said yes, but they didn't have details on them yet. So I asked him specifically about USB host mode (if it would be in the production model), and after several minutes, he came back and said that it did not support it like the n8x0 models.
I then asked him if it was getting a digital compass. He then started talking about a media player, contacts, etc. I asked him if he though I was talking about the accelerometer. He said that there wasn't an "application" for a digital compass.

I don't think he knew what I was talking about--possibly on either front. He also might not know the differences between software and hardware changes. Did you guys have any luck?
