Hello, I've purchased this warranty for a Nokia N900 phone which is still on pre order with Amazon. I do not know when the order will be fulfilled, or if it will be fulfilled. Will this warranty start from the day I ordered it or from the day I receive the item?
Furthermore, if I end up purchasing the item from another retailer instead of Amazon, will this warranty still be good for it?
Thank you very much.
Dear Davide,
I can understand your concerns.
Our warranties begin on the date of purchase of your item.
Your warranty currently shows an item purchase date of 10/17/2009.
For items pre-ordered before their actual release and shipment you should use the purchase/charge date as listed on the packing/shipping invoice included when your received your item.
In our experience most businesses charge for backordered and pre-release items only at the time of actual shipment.
The invoice should show the date of purchase/shipment, item description and purchase price.
Once you receive your item, you can contact us and let us know the actual purchase date that is shown on your invoice. We will then update your warranty to begin on that date.
If you do not receive your item we can easily cancel the warranty and refund you in full for the warranty purchase price.
If you purchase a different phone from a different retailer, you can then simply purchase a new warranty based upon the applicable information for the new phone.
If have any remaining concerns you're welcome to contact us directly. We'd be happy to discuss them with you.
You can reply to this email or call 1-800-649-5307 weekdays between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
Thank you,
Mark

When I initially ordered my N900 from Amazon I ordered the offered 3 year warranty. This warranty is from a company called Square Trade. I hadn't yet done anything about that warranty, but since I canceled my order with Amazon and went to Dell instead I decided to go in and see how it works.
I tried creating an account through their web page, but I never received an email. So I called them. The guy on the phone was very helpful. He created my account for me with a temporary password. I then explained to him that the warranty was purchased back in October and that I was wondering if the 3 year warranty started counting from the time of purchase or from the time of the product delivery. He said that it starts from the time you purchase the warranty. Oops #1.
I then explained to him that I had canceled my device order through Amazon and that I was purchasing it from Dell instead. I asked him if the warranty would apply to the device purchased from Dell and he said that it would not. He said that they can transfer a warranty from person to person, but not from device to device. Oops #2.
The good thing is that the warranty can be canceled within 90 days of purchase for a full refund. He was helpful enough to cancel it for me. I still think I am going to purchase this warranty for the device, but I am going to wait until it ships.
