This question is for the testers. Have any of you gotten vpnc successfully installed and working on the N900? This single thing dictates whether or not I purchase one.

So are you effectively saying that when I get my N900 there will be an unfinished but working Cisco-compatible(ish) VPN client ready? How cool is that...? \o/

Yeah schaggo, that's what I was hoping for. There is a version that works on the N800 and N810, but was not sure if they had it working yet for the N900. Thanks for the update archebyte.. I will be purchasing it then I suppose. Working from truly anywhere.. here I come!

its the same app as the N8x0, compiled on Maemo 5. there is also a client vpnc-GUI.

If vpnc worked for you on the N8x0 it should work on the N900. My office has two Cisco vpn servers with slightly different configuration. vpnc connected to both easily.

yeah, the convenience of vpn in yer pocket is awesome.

ohhh... so close to being able to administer servers from my phone! but where can i download vpnc from? i see an OS2008 version, but the app manager on my N900 doesnt seem to like it. has it been ported to Maemo5, or did you use the 2008 flavour manually?

archebyte - since you're walking the bleeding edge of n900 adoption...

could you point me at the beta release of vpnc (and the gui too if it has also been ported to maemo 5)?

thank you!

Add the extras-devel repository in the App Manager and you should see vpnc/vpnc-gui.

Catalog name: maemo.org extras-devel
Web address http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel
Distribution: fremantle
Components: free non-free

For the benefit of new users finding archebyte's post, it is not recommended to use extras-devel! See http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32676
