Check out this thread about messaging protocols.

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32423

There is also a port of Pidgin which seems inactive at the moment, but someone may pick it up.

You'll definitely be able to chat via MSN but video might not be available just yet.

A recent Pidgin version (2.6.3) will be available (it's already in Extras-Testing, but that repository is NOT meant for normal end-users as the software in there needs more testing first).
MSN support for the built-in chat application is available by installing telepathy-butterfly from the Extras repository.

I saw one of the videos of Jaaski showing off the N900, and in the video he shows that he's "chatting" with someone on MSN Messenger.. But doing a video conference, idk about that.. and it doesn't look like it's available..

People, I may have some good news regarding the aMSN Messenger.

Hi everyone!

It's been over a year since the release of 0.97.2, and "good things come to those who wait": audio conference, video conference, chat while appearing offline, full ink (handwriting) support, MSN games support (only tic-tac-toe for now), a new protocol version, and of course, your favorite bugfixes!

For those of you who happened to discover 0.98 on third-party sites and wonder where it went, this release was tagged and packed but never officially made public. 0.98.1 contains a lot of important fixes so update now!

We are also proud to announce that the Maemo 5 platform (Nokia's N900) is now supported.

Then go to downloads and Maemo 5. I don't have a Nokia N900 in my possession yet, but could someone test this application out already. And give his/her thoughts about it?

I tested it and I have to say that it is _very_ slow and barely unusable without stylus.
