I was trying to rip a DVD to my N800 and I found the program DVD Catalyst. I set the setting to the Nokia 770 and tried to record it. I put it on the device and neither media player nor Canola would play it; only mplayer. Even there, I come to points every minute or two where the video stops and tries to refresh. I lowered the settings on the DVD Catalyst program to a very low level, but I still get the problem. Is there any good way to solve this problem or is a DVD movie on an internet tablet too much for it?
Thanks

I too am having the same problem. It seems that mplayer is pretty much useless while the built in media player is not much better. I have not tried Canola. Maybe it has to do with the transfer rates, i.e. moving the data from the card to the player. Have you tried coping the entire file to the N800 and playing it directly from your device?

The stopping problem occurs when using "xv" output with the n800. To fix it, upgrade to the latest version of mplayer. If you have the latest version ( currently maemo.10 released feb 14 ) make sure you are using "nokia770" for video output.

The built-in media player is very picky about what files it will play. The exact error message from the media player and the report from mplayer will be very helpful in determining why your videos don't play.

Canola is just a pretty fontend for the same framework used by the "media player."

Thank you so much. The update to maemo.10 worked. When I looked before, I just found the 9 version, but now I have the newer one. Thanks, you made my day!

What type of "settings" does DVD Catalyst use to convert video?
Example: is the video codec MPEG-4? Video scale size? Bitrate?

I would like to compare DVD Catalyst output files to Nero Recode or Videora iPod Converter.
