It depends on the product of course but ramping up production to meet demand is non-trivial. In the case of the xbox360 for example initial yields were disastrously low - on the order of 10%. The means only 1 out of 10 of xboxes they produced actually worked.

Nokia has a lot of preorders from september, and they could follow our discussions in the network. Therefore I can't accept that the actual demand would surprise Nokia.
But what if they found a new severe bug in the software of the shipped devices? That would explain a least something. They could sell only a few hand flashed pieces so that we don't loose our patience.
