Yeah, that was my point...

I intentionally stopped upgrading as of 2.5.3, which has worked great. Click and hold, for example, does what it should. You don't get the CB radio thing or whatever it was, and you aren't using the sqlite database. But I don't miss those and I've had zero problems. i believe the .deb is still available in the "garage."

maemo-mapper is open source and it seems that other developers are developing towards fremantle version:

"Tap and hold" works for me as well with 2.6.2...
However, with my N810 if I minimize M/M, after about 2 minutes the desktop crashes (freeze) requiring a re-boot.
It works fine in both full and short screens though. It only causes the crash when running completely in the background.

...anybody else?

Hi all!
I'm developing the fremantle port of MM. I'll try to address a few of the questions I saw in this thread:

1) Maemo Mapper development has not stopped. :-)

2) Indeed I do not follow talk.maemo.org regularly (shame on me, I admit!), I just don't have enough time.

3) The UI in Maemo Mapper for the N900 is going to be almost completely different. Tap & hold action will simply disappear, replaced by some other interaction modes.

4) I'm not actively developing MM for diablo, because the two platforms are rather different when it comes to UI and location framework; but indeed, if while developing the fremantle branch I'll find some issues that can easily be fixed in diablo just by backporting the code, I'll do that.

5) You guys rock, I'll do my best so that you won't have to wait too long before having at least some work-in-progress version of MM in your devices. :-)

Ciao,
Alberto

I'm happy for gnuite !
If by working on MM he got the attention of the big G : good for him ! he deserves it !
I hope he will port Google Nav to Maemo
(or better may be the Dalvik VM)
Hope to see you here again gnuite !

My congratulations to John "gnuite" Costigan on his new position at Google. It's great to see someone that has given so much to our community be rewarded for his achievements with a job a Google -- he earned it. I for one will continue to use and enjoy Maemo Mapper on my N810.

I'm still using it on my 770...great app, but really miss the tap & hold feature . Maybe I'll try the 2.5.3 version and see if that works.
