Why don't you guys with N900's get together for a N900 Quake 3 frag fest?

I wonder if possible to play through internet or local network only?

PeterMaemo: This gentleman might be very well the first owner of a retail #N900 http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...3&postcount=26
IMHO it isn't really "retail" if it isn't:

(1) off the shelf
(2) from an actual retail channel

Congratulations on the new phone. I would also like to know whether google maps works well in the N900. Thanks.

I never knew about this site until now!
It uses flash so yes would definately work well like Youtube.

@ biatch0: Pedantically, you're right. I still love the coolness factor of walking into the Nokia store and being quizzed by the staff on where I got my device

@ Venomrush: BBC iplayer uses flash, but the videos' bitrate is too high for the N800 and N810. Still pretty much the same on the N900 (I wish they offered a generic "low bandwidth" or low resolution option...) Youtube works brilliantly, though.

@ yiannis: Google maps works orders of magnitude better than on the N810, for two reasons. First of all, the speed is improved (= it is now usable!) and secondly, you can now use a cursor in the browser, if you so desire, which means that you can pan the map without panning the rest of the page. (This is pure hell on the N810, IMO.) It even works well with the photo layer loaded. I can't find the distance measurement tool, so can't test that but I'd hazard an educated guess and say that it should definitely be OK.

@ NvyUs: The server keeps crashing on me, so I can't test the MSN site. Sorry.

Edit:
@ peio: You can use the website to chat as you would on a normal desktop PC, but it will not alert you/vibrate the phone. To do this there needs to be a plugin that interfaces the messaging system to the Facebook servers. I do not know how to do this, and Facebook seem to discourage this practice (cf. the instability of the Facebook Pidgin plugin [YMMV]).

Edit #2: On a completely unrelated note, I agree that Nokia was being shortsighted in its decision to not include a proper case with the phone. However, the sub-£15 N900 pocket that you can get from the Nokia store(s) does the job quite nicely.
I am also using a Durasec screen protector, which almost (!) fits perfectly and does affect the aesthetics somewhat. Nevertheless, I prefer that to potentially damaging the screen on the phone.

It is basically as good as the drool videos make it out to be! I cant convey my personal feeling of amazement - the multitasking is g r e a t. All the hardware looks and feels and works beautifully*1 - sorry asia, no can compete.

Battery depends on use so your awareness of shutting off bluetooth, closing apps that constantly chew cpu can positively affect this greatly. Yesterday i was chatting and surfing for 10 hours while listening to mp3s at least 4 hours. *2

Definitely install the load monitor applet so you can always get a visual on your cpu and hence battery consumption.

cheers

*1 if you find something not up to expectations, check whether they were realistic.

*2 wlan active, screen at 1 min blanking, no sim, no microsd, actual surfing time maybe 1 hour, amount of dimmed time maybe 50 percent

One thing I noticed: the media player doesn't sort album songs by ID3 Track Number attribute, so all my songs in an album aren't necessarily sorted correctly.
