Since the hardware specs are mostly equal (both 32 gig hd, 5mp cam..)
It depends on the software.
If you say for yourself, you are a techlover, always want the newest technology, maybe also program for it ->
you go for maemo 5 and the n900.

if you say, you are an ordinary mainstream customer, who just wants to have a high end phone and use the inbuilt features, but also expect that all of them work right from the box ->
you go for Symbian S60 and the X6

the x6 has a capacitive touch screen, but ive heard it's still not as good as the N900's resistive screen. Anyone had any hands on with this?

Id say the X6 is a phone and the N900 is a mobile tablet with phone features. I currently have the N900 and its quality and the phone features work fine for me
Best thing to do is go and test them both..

Cherrypie speaks the truth. Although in the long run, I think you would be better off with the N900 anyway, once software issues get fixed and more features get added. It's just the teething problems of Maemo 5 might scare you away now. If you want to play it super-safe, go for the X6. If you can handle some temporary deficiencies, go for the N900.

It is better, it is not the screen people complaint are going to, it is the os. Symbian 5th edition is still not so well developed for finger usage, doesn't matter if resistive (N97) or capacitive(X6) screens are used. Using It with finger just doesn't feel as smooth as handling an Android or Maemo device.

Well, as someone already stated, the N900 is intended for the "tech geeks", & the X6 is like an iPhone for Nokia. It's a goodlooking device & offers enough for the normal customer.

The N900 has a resistive touchscreen, while the X6 uses capacitive.
(although the toucscreen of the N900 is pretty good for resistive)

The camera quality are about the same, the X6 has better framerates regarding video. (30 instead of 25)

The CPU & OS, you can't really compare, seeing as the X6 runs Symbian & N900 Maemo. I mean, in the long-run, even if you're not a "techie", the N900 is a lot more handy & can do a lot more things.
You have an infrared port on the N900, so you can play with that a lot. Such as using it as a remote control, etc. Oh and we can't forget that the N900 has Adobde Flash 9.4, so if you're a person who likes to browse the net, you can do everything with this! You can go on megavideo.com for e.g watch full movies, then plug it into your TV & you're watching a brand new film

Basically you can do anything with the N900 & the X6 is limited.
If I was you I would of course buy the N900 because it's a techie's phone but at the same time any normal person can use it!
You'll also be part of a great community, developing cool apps & making the device better & better.

It's up to you, but I think for the price of the N900 it's really worth it!

Edit: Here's a very useful 5-paged review, if you're still unsure; http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n900-review-419p5.php

ok at first, that's not really, what you would call "legal".
Anyway, just wanted to add, that the X6' integrated web browser also supports flash (probably also 9.4 for ARM processors and 10.1 next year just like the N900).

Like I said, the hardware is really equally but the OS is alot better in the N900 (or at least has more potential, but isn't that a synonym for A LOT BETTER? )

X6 is a "Comes With Music Device" cant buy it without this service so it is expensive if you dont want all you can eat music. If you want the music then its a veritable bargain.

Watching films online is legal. You're not even downloading the actual film. (It's the uploading that's illegal).
Sites like www.watch-movies-online.tv for e.g is completely legal, because they only supply the links & you're allowed to watch the films that are posted on it. Thousands of people do it & post comments on every movie that's been watched.

As an e.g; you see a cake on the street that says "free cake" and you eat it, but it has drugs in it, you're not consuming the drugs illegally, you took a choice to eat something that was meant for anyone.

You're allowed to view anything that's been posted by other people because it's not your fault that they UPLOADED it, therefore if the police would track anyone down it wouldn't be you, because all you did was watch something you never uploaded.

Resume: Uploader is breaking the law.

The X6 supports full web browser (OSS) v7.0 with Macromedia Flash Lite 3.0, that's hardly the same.
