Secondly a simple "how to" thread with a disclaimer. But Nooo. In a month or two we'll see if I'm right or wrong?

Before my N900 I had a 3gs & the difference between Apple/iphone & Nokia is abundantly clear to me.

Apple refuse to make their products open source but the community help as best they can. (Jail break forums etc etc)

Nokia create open source products but it's users guard their knowledge.

It's quite telling when you think about it.

I post an opinion and get cussed on maemo lol

i post an opinion on Iphone/droid forum and get info and actual maemo help.

Hmm lol
No, I don't think you have demanded anything, but suggestions in how to find info in the case of the NES ROMs questions was presented it sounded like you didn't even try further searching with your later posts; you can literally find your answer to the NES ROMs in less than 5 minutes if you simply searched on Google as was suggested.

As for the bootloader question, you could have done a quick search on Google for "change linux bootloader graphic", viewed http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/grub.html which comes up in the search, and in reply to the "not for end-users" posting, you could have said "well I know in GRUB it is done this way so I was curious to know if it is similar..." You also could have validated on your own if the N900 is setup in this way before asking.

Search, research, and when need be, ask questions and even social engineer. :P But always be courteous, as you get nothing when you shoot daggers, even if they get shot at you first.

I have never disrespected anyone on here. In fact, this quote is from my second post in this thread

I'm just posting about my experience here.
Compare that to some of the responses and it should find it quite telling.

Have you tried this, if you really want to risk your user experience by using unfinished software.

The Maemo community is indeed open. The reason why people don't want other users to talk about red pill mode is because it's not meant for end users, can very easily (potentially) brick your device as well as make you lose all your data.

It isn't about censorship or trying to keep users from doing what they want on their phone. It's simply keeping them from possibly screwing up their new $600 investment and then complaining about Nokia/Maemo/maemo.org when they do.

So yes, we don't suggest normal users - those who are not interested in tinkering with their phones and possibly messing them up permanently - to follow those red pill steps.

So so so so soooooo many of the new blogs out there covering Maemo have been posting "how to get red pill mode" advertizing it as some magical "GET MORE APPZ NOW" button without telling them any of the risks.

Face it, the people making these complants were going to complain no matter what. If they didn't get the information, the community is closed and guarding secrets. And if he did get the info and bricked the device, the community here would be the first target of your rage... "why would the community want me to destroy my device?!? QQ"

Maemojedi... telling us the community is closed is laughable. If we have to endure little posts like this one because the community isn't freely sending you ROMs...

Here is a service that I propose for talk.maemo.org. Why doesn't someone start a "looking for used N900's" thread. Others could post their location and desire to purchase used N900's at 2/3's the retail price.

The OP is right maemo.org is the real competition and membership should be almost a pre-requisite to purchasing a devise. If you can't handle membership then maybe the N900 isn't for you. If you somehow slipped through the cracks because of peer pressure or whatnot, bought the N900, and are not happy in some way, we could gently direct you to the "Wanted" thread and you can move on.

Actually being contacted by someone about an issue you're having via PM is a good thing. As far as being contacted by someone outside these boards and them purporting to represent this community, that is another thing altogether.

As far as I know, that is something that is not supported by this community. Only a member of the community council should presume to speak for the community as a whole because they were elected by the community. On the face of it, talk.maemo.org has changed because of the influx of new members but the next time someone purports to speak for this community here is a simple solution:
Check the list of members who voted in the last election. If they are not on it. Tell them to piss off. (but use your own words )

I understand, and please don't take any of my postings disrespectfully either, if you came on here going "ahh you peoplez suck, iphone rules jajaja" and crap like that I would not have even entered this thread as it wouldn't have been worth my time. People can be touchy though, especially online as we're all protected by the veil of anonymity in many cases, so that's just something you have to deal with sometimes.

All I wanted to offer to the conversation is that when you come into those situations, sometimes people just want to know that those asking for help have at least taken the time to look into it in an intelligent manner before just posting and asking for it. That's understandable, especially here I feel; the N900 is no iPhone, and the OS is accessible to the end-user if they really want it to be; I've already read some threads with reports of bricked units, and it doesn't seem that there's a special keypress that can bring it back from the dead.

Keep that in mind when you post, don't take anything personally, and show in your postings that you are following previous suggestions and attempting to inform yourself before outright asking, and I think your experience on forum overall will be more fruitful in these types of situations.

With all that said, I do hate you for having an N900 before me.

Action taken by Nintendo in London has little affect on a forum member based in italy, germany so on and so forth
But action taken by a forum member can have an effect on Nokia. If someone posts here clearly advocating and explaining how to get illegal copies of Nintendo's games then Nintendo have a clear claim against Nokia because this is a Nokia sponsored site. No-one wants that to happen, which is why no-one's talking about where to get game ROMs.

Really, this is not complicated.

Maybe you havn't disrespected people by telling them directly that they are idiots but you have acted like a spoiled child not getting what it pointed at... But there are other ways to be disrespectful... for example being overly touchy over what people say and highlighting only the part that you THINK shows your point.

We just don't want ordinary users to instantly render their device a brick.
instead of just reading what he wrote... he was trying to help you and give an explanation. Or maybe it was because you saw yourself as a EU not a OU that you thought he WANTED you to brick your phone

and I must say that I did find the
So I did what any end users (EU) would do and searched youtube.
remark a bit disrespectful... Thats not where I would go to search... I would try google for a start...

and the
Hmm lol
makes it sound like you think about it and then lols... making the laugh not a natural laugh but a bit spiteful

and the last one
I'm not here to disrespect people, swear yada yada
To me that sounds like "yeah yeah what ever!" which is exactly what you said you weren't... Disrespectful!
