Hello,

I used the nicely detailed instructions from this post- Connect with Cingular but with no luck.

In the past, I have been able to connect my Pocket PC to my Sony Ericsson T637 using similar settings in the post to browse the internet through a BT connection with the phone, but I cannot get the 770 to connect now. Using the settings described in that post and some variations of it, I always get an error message that says something like "GPRS Parameters not correct (or something).... blah, blah". A list of compatible phones had a version of my T637 (the T630- same phone, but without 850 mhz) listed as a workable phone. Anyone usign this set up successfully? Could you please share your wisdom?

I can get the T637 and an Audiovox SMT5600 smartphone to pair with the 770, but no dice getting online. I have an unlimited data plan.

On a side note. I have such regard for the potential of the 770 that I am willing to switch carriers to get the best phone for compatibility with the 770. Any suggestions here? ATM, I am considering going back to Sprint (I will still have a Cingular account for my Europe trips from work). Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I have been trying for days without any luck. Every time I try and pair with it the smt5600 says the passcode is expired or invalid. Did you do something special or out of the ordinary to pair them?

Thanks for the replies

The SMT5600 would pair easily with the code provided by the 770, but I would get a message that stated that the only service available was DUN, no file transfer. And DUN obviously doesn't work either. Other than that, I didn't do anything special, just followed the pairing 'wizard' on the 770.

When trying to pair my Cingular Treo 650, I would get a message that no services were supported and the pairing process would stop.

It's the T637 I'm most frustrated with because it usually supports all the BT services and the message I get on the T637 screen (about the GPRS Parameters) when trying to get a DUN connection with the 770 is one I've never seen before.

I was thinking the Nokia 6682 could be my next phone. Maybe it's ability to play friendly with the 770 is just the push I need to make up my mind

Thanks again!

There may be some variations in the login settings depending on where you are in the US, try the following User name instead: WAP@CINGULAR.COM

Also note that the User name and password have to be completely capitalized, case does matter.

Also, some regions require you set the Gateway IP, try: 66.209.11.61

My area (Southern CA) did this automatically.

Also, some areas or phones may have different dial up numbers, try the following:
Dial-up Number *99# [some phones may require a context id
number (CID) added “*99***N#” where “N” is
assumed to be the cid, usually 1, 2 or 3].

The connection wizard built into the 770 does have settings for Cingular (found them after all, but my settings had already been working by that time so I didn't try the pre-programmed settings) so give that a try too.

Lots of settings to try here:

The tech support number for cingular laptop business wireless is 866-490-2666. They are pretty good at troubleshooting configuration issues. One thing they told me is, at least here in Central CA, you have to un-capitalize one of the entries in the built-in cofig. that comes capitalized.

Just purchased a 770 and also own an SMT5600 with Cingular service in TX and have tried all the recommended settings on this post. The devices see each other- but after I enter a passcode on both they just time out.....

It has the WM5 for smartphones as its OS. It will not pair with the 770!! The phone always says the passcode is invalid. There must be a compatability problem between the nokia 770 and the Windows mobile OS. Anyone have any success pairing the 770 with any smartphone with the microsoft OS?

Just returned my 770 to CUSA. Apparantly no phone other than a Nokia BT model is compatitible. Bummer.
