Considering all the flak they have taken because of Fremantle's rough edges, I think they were right on underplaying the N900 the way they did.

Of course, this means that Harmattan better be very polished, and promoted very well.

I bought an Iphone 32gs with rogers for 199 with a 3 years contract, after analysing all phone on the market and the one coming (that was in september ) I choose the N900 even if we had to wait and all the raison that were on my conclusion are all over those threads so I didn't open the iphone and sell on ebay for 940$ with the profit I am waiting my N900 that I should get in 2 days. Well a sail boat can't be compare to a train but neither a walking to a formula one or a formula 1 to the space shuttle. one thing for sure that $/%?/$%?$/%? thing about the onscreen keyboad when typing a K and it write an L it is like making a street with a hand shovel instand of a buildozer.

No offense, and as I said, have fun, but I really find... strange... that after all this time, and iPhone can't still do what any Maemo (or S60 handset) has been doing since years ago...
well, it could of course do, it is a BSD based system, multi tasking capable. But they decided not to implement it, for what reasons ever (they are obvious). And, hm, the success and usability of the iphone proves that is was not the worst decision.

When I say terrible job I was focusing more on keeping in contact with this community. And later retailers. Alot of this "where is the n900" could have been avoided or reduced by communication.

And knowing Fremantle was rough they should have given out more devices to the maemo.org community before its general release. =P

I'd say most of Apple's success comes from its marketing, some of it from its usability and ease of use yes. But more likely from its marketing (and why Apple focuses so much on its advertising campaign with their products). PC vs Mac (though it really should be Windows vs OSX), iPhone, iPod, etc..

Whatever your likes or dislikes, the iPhone is a real option for people that feel messed about by Nokia.

Now, where's my replacement N900 ..........
It's not an option for me...
But I still feel messed about...

[QUOTE=SmartMic;403446]Hey all you maemo enthusiasts,

just want to say goodbye to N900 and maemo. I was really thinking about buying one, but luckily, I got my iphone 2 weeks ago.

For me the situation is quite simple:
- Nokia did a really, really bad job concerning product communication (here I mean the announcment of a release date, not any product marketing - have you seen any?)
- The iphone is (for me) better anyhow (what counts for my daily mobil use: thinner, low weight, no mechanical degrees of freedom)

Well, if a spend several hundred bucks for a smartphone, I want a up to date product . The iphone is now ahead all smartphones I checked so far. Design, Interface and, well take a look at the AppStore, the choice IS impressing.

I wish you a early delivery - hopefully before the iphone 4G is out

LOOOSEEERRRRRRR
BYEBYE

I don't want this to end up in an N900 vs. iPhone discussion. Think there are already some in different threads.
For my needs, I just did not want to wait any longer and I am really happy with the decision to get an iPhone instead. After all, this was my plan B.
