Nokia recently announced their up coming plan and strategies for 2010, Check out the website for more information

Seems like they are planing to pull out another gun mobile device in mid 2010 and will be porting Maemo 6. Whereas our Pre-order device Nokia N900 might be long dead in 6months then what should we do?

Should Nokia porting N900 to maemo 6?
Tell us what you think and finger cross for the up coming war of maemo OS.

Yeah they are quite bullshiit really. Take a look at WinMo OS, you can upgrade to the latest WinMO though your device is like 2 to 3 years old.
Where as maeMO 5 -> maemo 6 is another big QUESTION MARK?????

If N900 die after 6month and not supporting OS upgrade then I think N900 will be my very last NOKIA phone from NOKIA. I'll switch and force myself to go with Andriod 2.0 instead. Atleast they are more reliable on their OS Compatibility Devices.

But CAN you upgrade Windows Mobile?

Such as HTC do tend to optimise for older hardware but only because they then sell it on to the various networks/companies which rebrand their devices. It makes them money, although often it means you have to obtain those updates unofficially as none of the companies actually bother to spend the money buying the rights.

Thing is, Nokia do not have that advantage. They are writing Maemo for their own devices (thus far) so in their eyes it does not make them any more money allowing upgrades on older devices, in fact it just costs them money.

Granted, I would argue it does make them money in the long run due to brand loyalty, but they do not seem to realise this. They are under the impression people will PAY to buy a newer device with the new software if they are told their old device will not be supported, not realising the will lose a certain amount of repeat custom taking that approach.

i dont see why this hardware wouldnt be able to handle Maemo6. just leave in support for resistive screens, and we should be good.

Guys, I think you're overblowing things here. Even if Maemo 6 can't run on the N900, I'm pretty sure all the apps made for it will run on the N900 with community support.

If you aren't going to buy the N900 because there MIGHT be something six months down the line, you might as well never buy any electronics, gadgets or phones *ever* because there's always something coming down the line and soon.

Thank God(not you), we have Microsoft and Apple that actually fight for what we care and are not just interested in how deep my pocket goes...
