Yes, I will add disabling when screen is blanked and when the call is in progress. It is just a core functionality right now

For the camera button, there's camkeyd

It seems that for some reason the proximity sensor is not available through HAL like the buttons. There is a "platform_proximity" device but it shows no activity through lshal -s -m. I'm just suggesting that using HAL callbacks might be a better alternative to polling (if it is really available via HAL)

cool that you two are merging projects. I assume you would then be coming up with a new name? mpd is a bit ambiguous, as it is the name of my favorite music player/organizer :-)

Just checking: are you all aware of the Ctrl Back key combination?

@qgil, we are actually emulating this combination for the application to work

The problem is, that you need keyboard to press ctrl-backspace, and it seems that in many use patterns, it is annoying to slide out keyboard just to switch applications. Best example being full screen browsing.

Ah, I guess it's because I'm talking all the time that my keyboard is always out anyway.

An idea came up recently on the scummVM thread to use the proximity sensor as a means to right click in scummVM.
Do you think your app could be modified to do that? (i'm guessing it just needs changing some values, but to be honest i don't really undestand what's going on).
Maybe it can receive signals to emulate different keypresses, depending on who needs what?

It would be very nice indeed to have a range of user-configurable options for what the two buttons will do - maybe this is something that could be looked at in a subsequent version?

The possibilities for widespread use of the proximity sensor across many apps seem tantalising, but it's not great for every app to have to do this individually.

For example, I think a nice idea would be for proximity to toggle between normal and cursor mode in the browser ui.

Maybe if a standard k/b modifier event was put in place (right alt?) as an option here, it would make it easier across the board for apps to take advantage of the possibility (without having to write their own proximity-polling code in each case) so that (for example) the mod to the browser-ui would just take the form of adding behaviour for a standard k/b modifier?
