You don't even need it on your pc once you have it configured properly for bluetooth activesync. The only component of the software that expires if you don't register is their desktop app.

PDANet has a setting to allow DUN. Once you have it activated, the N800 will set up a successful data connection with the PPC 6700.

The only thing I can say about it is that it works pretty well. As long as you don't lose your connection, you can stay connected for hours. If you disconnect or get disconnected, you will need to soft reset the PPC 6700. The workaround that they have seems to totally redirect the dataconnection of the phone. (You can shut down PDANet to get data working again without a reset, but you still need a soft reset to get another successful BT DUN connection).

I think that Sprint crippled bluetooth dun on the PPC 6700. The PDANet application pretty much tricks the phone into using bluetooth activesync to establish DUN (that's my impression, anyway).

I am so greatful for this forum. I just purchased my N800 yesterday and am comitted to the platform. I did how ever have difficulty with the instructions listed above, and to make matters worse, I can not seem to uninstall PDANet. If someone who has successfully paired the 6700 with the N800 in this manner could provide me a step by step cook-book I would be ever so greatful.

The strange part is that my laptop will dial out on the 6700 through BT provided I start WModem on the PDA. USB connections have always worked, although I now get nasty messages on the PDA telling me not to tether. The odd part is that I do not get them through BT.

This really needs to work and I suspect the problem is on the Nokia side given that my laptop uses DUN on the 6700 just fine.

Like I said earlier I am committed to the N800 and think it is a perfect platform to fill the void between phone and laptop - it just needs to work with my 6700!

I am not sure how stable PDANet is. I can not even uninstall it. It also locks my PDA asfter a failed connection attempt.

I may have to get a data plan with Cingular and break out the old 9300, but EVDO is just sooooo much faster!!!

I started this thread, but then returned my N800 because I couldn't connect with DUN to my PPC 6700. Since then, I have flashed my ROM with Waiten's AKU 3.3 and I installed USB Modem trial and tested it with my laptop. That worked. So, I just reordered an N800 to try again using USB Modem. I'll post my results.

It's fixed.
I downloaded the USB Modem trial and installed it on my PPC6700. I turned on Bluetooth, launched USB Modem and clicked "enable." Then, I powered my new N800 on. I went to control panel and Bluetooth, clicked the Devices button, then clicked New. It found my PPC6700.
Device Type: PDA
Supported profiles: DUN, OPP, SPP
Cellular Type: (none)

Connectivity looks like this:
Connect automatically: Phone connection
Search Internet: never

I then clicked Phone and selected my PPC6700 from the list.

To attach to my phone, I first turn on Bluetooth and enable USB Modem on the phone, power on the N800. Click the globe at the top left and select a website. The N800 looks for and attaches to my phone.

So, USB Modem gives my phone the DUN protocol the N800 needs.

jhford: how did you define the connection on the N800? I got USB Modem installed on the 6700, paired the 6700 and N800 (The N800 sees the DUN profile). But I haven't had any luck setting up the connection itself under the connection manager. I have tried with #777 as the dialup number - did you also have to add your sprint username and password?

You won't see it in the Connection Manager, but it still works.
Here's what I did in this order:
Enabled USB Modem on the 6700
Open Bluetooth in N800 Control Panel
Devices
New
It found my phone & the Dun profile because USB Modem was enabled
Paired them
Opened Phone in Control Panel
Selected my phone
Opened Connectivity in Control Panel
Set up Sprint in Connections as Data Call, #777. finish
General tab
Connect automatically: Phone connection
Search interval: Never

Now when you try to open a web page, it will try to connect to your phone first. If USB Modem is not enabled it will time out and you can select a hot spot from Connections.

Now if someone can help me get my User digital certificate working on the N800 so I can dial into my Bank of America account, I'll be happy.

If you flash with the most recent release, as I did yesterday, your phone connection will appear in Connections.
