I'm having problems opening the mobile versions of several pages i use..

Links like http://m.eb.dk and http://m.bt.dk

The browser seems to treat them like xml files.

What can I do to open pages like these ?

Both sites are running J Boss Web 2.0.1.GA

There seems to be a lot of nobr elements in the page, but mozilla is meant to be tolerant of that. Midora loads it, but gives an ugly block of text. Unless you tell it to tell the site it's an iPhone or something else for the m.bt.dk site ftlof. (That fudge doesn't work for the m.eb.dk site though.)

Thanks for replying.

I don't quite understand all the terms you mention, but i believe the problem lies somewhere in the N900's browser.

These pages open fine in all other browser, including N95 (webkit based), iphone, opera mini, opera desktop.

So what's the N900 browser missing ?

I posted the extra information in the hope someone else would be able to cast light on the issue.

Midori is a light weight browser in extras testing I think, you can set it to identify itself as something other than midori running on a n900. The m.bt.dk site renders correctly when Midora identifies itself as an iPhone under settings.

This 'trick' doesn't seem to work for m.eb.dk site.

The n810 renders the sites in the same manner as Midori when no changing identity, treating it as a XML Feed.

And yes even the Amaya browser renders those mobiles sites correctly. And that is less forgiving that standards based browsers like Opera.

The non mobile versions of those sites work fine on the n900 though, why don't you use them (while we wait for an answer to the question)?

I glad to see I'm not the only one finding this a bit strange.

I am using the full version of these sites, however for for morning fix of news using the full version I can only get to read a few articles in my limited amount of time. That's the reason I still like the mobile versions so much, an I'd really like to se this fixed.

So hopefully someone can shed some more light on this, or tell us what to do next?

Same issue on my Desktop browser (Firefox 3.5.5 on Fedora 12), hence probably not a software bug at all...

Your endless defending, and neglecting of valid problems, is becoming a bit tiresome.

But if we're following that kind of reasoning, these sites are currently working in the following browsers:
  • Opera 10.10
  • Firefox 3.5
  • Internet Explorer 6/7/8
  • Opera Mini
  • Opera Mobile
  • S60 Browser
  • S40 Browser
  • Safari Mobile
  • Skyfire 1.1
  • Internet Explorer Mobile

And not working in:
  • N900 Browser

So, yeah, I think the N900 browser are handling these sites in a way, that doesn't seem like the standard way of handling them.

But if no-one here can say anything about the problem, what's the best way to report it to Nokia ?

Aw c'mon, it' not that hard to figure out.
It's a special wap page. My guess is the n900 browser doesn't have wap support (not much of to reason to have it anyway, since it can do normal versions)
Desktop firefox opens it like an xml too, which means that it's not a buggy rendition, it's just the way it works. Note that all your listed browsers are especially designed for mobiles and as such are likely to support wap
Perhaps lack of wap support is a problem for some. Just ask for a wml browser extension (possibly available in fennec). The n900 browser works fine otherwise
EDIT: i noticed your list seems to imply the mobile versions work ok on desktop browsers. Are you sure they don't have a wml extension? My firefox 3.5.5 shows just the xml

Yeah, I'm positive. I've never installed any plugins for Firefox, since I use Opera.
It's weird though, that the same page, will display two different ways, in the same browser.

Regarding your point, on there not being a need for showing these pages, I have to disagree, as it'll still be much faster for reading articles via these "mainly text" versions of a lot of news websites. Especially with the way the back/forward/history is working on my device, but that's another story.

But you're basically saying, that the developers need to implement wml support, and these sites will work ?
