I never click on the two faceless guys on the left of my screen. I use web mail and will probably not be making Web calls till Skype becomes available or Vonage folds.

So isn't there a way to replace the two guys?

Don't know how/if that can be removed, but I would suggest that new single-click launcher by MishaS. You can add whatever (limited by screen estate) application you want, it'll get started by clicking on the icon right there on the home screen.

Yes, the one-click launcher is great, but the high-profile waste of screen real estate the two guys get offends me. And the sham "choice" you get -- you can either put them on top with the web below or put them second with the web above! Big, meaningless choice!

Install one of the alternative window managers/desktop environments (Windowmaker, ROX, KDE, ...) and design your desktop just as you want.

It's all in the forums...

Yes I know that I could get rid of that screen door I don't like by rebuilding my house. But there ought to be an easier way...

Gizmo has WAY TO MANY features and options which I will never ever use. I unistalled gizmo 1 minute after first install and never touched it again. I want a voip client that is simple, small and fast.

There ought to, but there isn't. Hildon is a very rigid and only marginally adaptable desktop environment.

This would not be that bad, if Hildon had been designed by people who knew what they were doing (trying desperately to avoid YAGNP -- Yet Another Gratuitous Newton Plug). It should be clear by now that stating that the ergonomics of Hildon are non-existent is actually giving the Hildon development team a compliment.
