Hi all I'm new on this N900 device and I loved it , never been using such as this powerfull device so I wanna keep that way , but I still want to add some more feature to it but my concern is ..what is the best way to install app , games and so on ...etc
1: is it just use my device to log in this forum and download straight up to the device then install from there ..
2 : use my computer desktop as a source to download then transfer to my device (N900) ..
3 : I can have it download and install to my external SD memory card then have it plug in to my device ..?
So then again I'm a new bies to hightech please help me choose which way is right to treat my device without freeze and crash ? I know at some point they'll certainly will .... ? but just to make sure I do it right ...Thank You all

Hi joesphle and welcome to the forum.

Your best method for installing is to use the application manager in the device: that will make sure you get all the bits and pieces of any installation as the application manager will collect them. If data cost is a problem try to do it when you're on wifi.

If you're new to all this, then stick to the nokia catalogue and the Maemo-extras catalogue for now. The Ovi store is not actually live, though it's been visible briefly in testing. Avoid the 'extras-testing' and 'extras-devel' catalogues as the apps there are still being created and might not do your n900 good. (Until you're happy to tinker a good bit more).

Good luck hunting. Maemo-extras currently has 70 downloads. You can also lok at a large collection of wallpapers at the n900 wallpapers site.

No, I mean using the applications manager.

Click the menu (little squares, top left corner)
Click 'More' (Bottom right corner)
Choose 'App manager' (second line, 1st in left)

click 'download'

Drop top menu down (little blue triangle on the top bar) and check which Application catalogues are enabled (click cataloges) - you should have nokia updates, nokae applications and Maemo extras coloured and enabled. Anything else should be greyed out.

Click off the cataloges to return to the available applications list. Everything in those lists should be stable. Betas and apps under development are stored elsewhere. You can go there when you get more confident.

Browse the list to choose what you want - you can preview by using the downloads list here or on Maeemo-select. When you find something you want, simply click on it. If it's a Maemo-extras app you'll be asked to agree a disclaimer. Then choose 'install'. The device will do all the rest.

While under Windows you have to go to webpages and download applications (sometimes from sources that you don't necessarily trust), it is quite common under Linux (and hence also Maemo) to have available applications centralized on one server and accessible through an application on the computer, in this case: More > Application Manager.
