Will google maps ever be able to work with the N900

That would be up to Google and they tend to work on the size of platform. Not sure if it requires Java either which also isn't present on N900 yet. I wouldn't expect to see it anytime soon unfortunately.

Depends on your definition of "work." If you visit maps.google.com in the browser, it behaves likes it would on a PC. To pan the map, you make a stroke rightward from just outside the lower left corner, and click on the arrow icon that pops up. Then do the same things you would do on a desktop.

Now if you want it to locate you on the map with GPS, and give voice directions, and whatsit, then read the thread referenced in the previous post.
