Referring to the title... I'm not sure if Skype is good news. It's just another piece of software that can't be fixed by the community, just like Flash and Opera today. What we'll get is a piece of software that cannot be improved/fixed/backported to OS2006, neither by Nokia nor by the community.

A Skype client doesn't make the N800 a better net citizen. The focus should have been on better SIP-support from the early 770-days on, instead.

As you also are part of the Milhouse all knowing Brigade, you are cordially invited to prove what I gave away as being under NDA. There you go Mr. "I get advanced copies". Post here in public what beans I spilled. You and your best friend are quick to talk and put up no facts to back up your claims. So with your connections to Nokia, find out with whom we spoke, where the meeting was, the time, and the agenda. Please post a copy of the NDA that I violated as well. You nor your best bud have zero point zero clue as to the client I was with nor my capacity there yet you are attempting to speak with authority about a subject you are clueless about. So this is your BIG CHANCE to prove me wrong and show where I leaked company secrets. Put it out there for all to see. I am sure they are just as interested as I am to see what you have to say. Between you and your friend, you have done your best to derail this thread. If you don't like what I am saying then ignore it considering you know more and know better. You can't even stick to your word and put me on Ignore like you mentioned. So bring it on chuckles.

I like my popcorn with butter.

I have no problems with someone, even Millhouse asking a question. As for grilling me, get serious. He's not a lawyer. I do know that Skype is closer to being released for the consumer market as was thought. This is not top secret info. Second, I gave no specific dates about the release of anything other than a few months, soon, shortly, in a bit, etc..... If I had said, month and day x, then you would have a gripe. So with that, what exactly do you want? What should I do so that you are happy?

Ah, okay. I did not own a 770 so I would not know but I do tend to like using SIP-support rather than being locked into a proprietary protocol like Skype. You are 100% correct though.

Completely agree. Please please please give us an open / simple / standard SIP client and let us choose our SIP provider!
It is already a big mess in the instant messaging world (I hate to have to install 5 GAIM protocols to be able to reach my buddies) and it is starting to be exactly the same in the SIP world.

Yup and I can say that GizmoProject does not work on my home network anymore but it will work on the 3G network or another network. If I use X-Lite, on the same computer with the same SIP credentials, it all works fine. The guys at Gizmo know there is a problem and are working on a fix. They won't say what it is but they know an issue exists.

did u do this w/ mnotify? i am looking for it...
Nope dude. If I had it I would mail it to you. If I see an application I want via Application Manager, I select it. It downloads the file and asks me where I want to save it. I pick my external drive and save it there. Then I go to File Manager and install from there.

Terve,

Me either. I like being able to use my N800 while out and about in Helsinki, but Gizmo stopped working properly. Hopefully they will get that fixed soon as I used to use it almost daily.

I confess to getting a kick out of the grilling (I only see Mr Baby's posts when they're quoted), but sooner or later even our antimicromanagement admin will step in and throw water on the whole thing. Been there, got soaked for that.

But, yeah, accurate PR, please. Or nebulous hints and vague promises from actual insiders. Either way.

I don't agree. Skype IS the most used VoIP service on the planet, so it will be very useful on the Nokia IT.
I also think the Opera browser is the best piece of software for the N800 (and 770) It is very user friendly , very compatible and relatively stable when compared to the other programs (email client, RSS feeds, Media player, VoIP google talk client).
Because of the problems with those programs I don't use them as much as I would like to. Opera I use ALL the time, and use a web application for RSS en Email. (works much better)

If Skype for the N800 is of good quality (user friendly and stable ) I don't mind if it is closed source.
