It's just a programmer joke. I know firefox does it, didn't know the maemo browser does it too.
The worst you can do in that place is screw up your browser, requiring a reset to default
It will not void the warranty on your device. Nothing software-related will.
The question is legitimate for a beginner though

that's just a message in firefox, and since the n900 browser is essentially firefox with a redesigned interface (or at least borrows heavily from firefox), it's still displaying that try it in firefox in linux or in windows and you're going to get the same message.

The question is legitimate but so is the warning. Firefox allows you to customize setting in a way that most apps do not. This also means that Firefox allows you to screw up settings . . . royally, beyond redemption, reinstall it and start over screw ups. Before you modify anything, you should understand what you are doing.

OK. I use Firefox on Linux and my Mac, and have tinkered in about:config but never noticed (or remember seeing) the warning. I guess the new N900 made me more observant of everything. Thanks to all.
