python got installed on my n900 when I installed the application attitude. attitude is tiny, python is relatively large (about 15MB). python does not seem to be optified. My free space on / went from 80MB to 66MB after installing attitude, even after a reboot.

As for the language itself, I can manage with 2.5. It's the libraries that are occasionally an issue. I have only ever seen the module gtkmozembed in Python 2.6. It usually comes in the python-gnome2-extras package. However, it's not in the python2.5-gnome2-extras in Fremantle. It's probably not an issue of the version of Python per se, but rather than no one ever made gtkmozembed for 2.5. Or, I just failed to find it. If it's available for Fremantle, I'd sure like to know about it.

j.s. : there is a preliminary "optified" version of pymaemo in extras-devel (shaves some 20 MB off root) since last month, not sure if it has made it to extras yet

jeffbarish : I haven't seen any hints of a 2.6 pymaemo, yet. Anyway, that wouldn't guarantee that you'd get a full distribution with all the standard libs you want/need. At least, all the packages up to Maemo4 were trimmed down for size.

To both : if you're into Python and the N900 you should really subscribe to the pymaemo-developers list. It's low-volume, and the best place to keep up to date on happenings ask questions :

https://garage.maemo.org/mailman/lis...mo-developers/

edit: I see jeff's on there already - should've checked first :-)
