You signed an NDA with Nokia then proceeded to shoot your mouth off - is it now official that Java will not be part of Nokias plans because (according to you) they believe Flash (which barely works) and AJAX (same) is good enough? That's news, never seen that before and I must admit I'm not sure I agree with it. Sure it's been suggested, but never confirmed. The future marketing direction (E-series for business not the Internet Tablets) is also something that may or may not be public knowledge (again, I've never seen it stated officially) and could well be something they didn't want you to blab about.

Minor tidbits of news though this all is, you have still violated your NDA which is the point I'm making and you're too much of a coward to accept it. Yes, coward - you know you've done it and refuse to acknowledge it, hence this tiresome and long running discussion (which ends here although I'm sure you'll continue your rantings).

I don't work in concert with anyone, it's just that you are the attention seeking ego maniac who posts what little information he knows despite being asked not to by those who provided that information (the whole point of the NDA, you see?) You become violently disagreeable when challenged over the most minor of points and if anyone has posted agreeing with my point of view, it's because fundamentally you are an unstable attention seeker and everyone can see this.

If I've chased anyone away from this forum, it's because I speak my mind and question the charlatans that have occasionally turned up here, and this includes you. The only person where I recall this happening is the guy who offered the case for sale but produced no goods or evidence of any goods - as I recall, you defended him. You mug.

Until this post I haven't even come close to being rude to you - some mocking posts maybe, it really is too difficult to pass up sometimes - but you have continually peppered your posts (and not just when addressing me) with offensive references. I find it pathetic that you can't bring yourself to use the real words so please, go right ahead and contact ReggieS. Or is this just another empty threat, because you are after all a classic internet bully?

As I said before Milhouse, the critical analysis in your posts help because they show that baby has no credibility.

The E-series and tablets are and will be marketed separately. That much was apparent to me at CES when the tablet was placed into the N-series, camera added, and the announced apps in development were Rhapsody, Skype and Navicore. It became more certain when the E90 was announced, and when the IT start being sold through retail rather than business channels. You can look at my prior posts, on why the tablet won't include a Nokia enterprise-class PDA app anytime soon and others, for my supporting facts and reasoning.

-but isn't the real reason that skype (and gizmo and gtalk voice) are not open and hackable is so you can't hack it to make free phone calls round the world, 24/7?

I for one can feel the big-money pressure of phone companies riding the partially-stillborn voip wave- at least here in fubar USA. 'wouldn't wan't folks to make free phone calls, ya'know.

skype is closed source, as they use a means of connecting that was, and may still be, encrypted end-to-end and that they wanted to keep proprietary. i am not sure if gizmoproject is closed source or not, but ekiga is fully open source.

the cost of making phone calls comes into play when calling phones that are not IP based, i.e. cell/mobile phones or traditional landlines. the carrier of those types of phones run a "use-my-bridge, then-pay-my-fee" network, and in order to access/ring up on their network, you have to pay. thats really the only time costs come into play for VoIP calls (aside from the needed broadband connection).

Not really; Skype is closed source because their (=eBay's) business model depends on it for other reasons. They use not only a closed source application but, even worse, a proprietary protocol that's incompatible with everything else out there.

Applications that use open protocols (usually SIP, sometimes H.323 or Jabber/Jingle) may choose to be free software or not. Usually they will be free software.

Earning money for PC2Phone-Calls is not a matter of software or proprietary protocols. I can make PC-to-phone calls (and phone to PC) with my SIP-based software; I pay a local company to provide the gateway. They do not require the protocol or the software to be proprietary, quite on the contrary: They tell customers to use standard software so they don't have to develop their own. Each call means that you log into their server - very much like you log into your Amazon account: you can do so using a free browser and the open HTTP&HTML-framework, can't you?

uhh yeah, I guess....
I just don't really care that much about it.....That is what my cell phone is for.
Although it is really neat making phone calls through my cell phone with the N800, I must admit.

this thread is too intense for me!!!
