hello, are there any apps available to extract .rar files ? .r01 etc

Yes, unrar. However, it is a command line program (no GUI).

I suspect it is in extras-devel (see http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-devel), so proceed carefully if you want to install it!

an idea how to install it and use it ? I searched the extras-devel not there

Become root, then try:

apt-get install unrar
Or, just install cbrpager.
