If you do not modify font size, there is plenty of screen space. The easydebian version is unusable mostly because someone set huge font there.

OpenOffice in Easy Debian works, but its startup is reallyslow, at least on my N800.

That said, if I need to create or update a doc - something I frequently have to do - I'll just use my netbook (it's an Asus 4G Surf and still works wonders). It doesn't take up much space in my messenger bag.

I had tried to use my N800 with a BT keyboard exclusively once on a trip - it worked, but it was PAINFUL. Won't do it again.

Really, if you find yourself needing to create/update docs that often, just get a cheap netbook.

i have a netbook, but i cannot take it on jobs and stuff(well i could but its really not practical)- i need to generate estimates all day(ideally i would love an excel compatible software then print an image in pdf),i also need to update other files on the fly,(maybe vncor a log me in is a better soloution) and when i wait untill i get home sometimes it can be to late(lose job).. although this should only be a tempoary problem as i cannot do everything for ever..

i have allways wanted a pc in my pocket- i am afraid this linux isnt gonna be up to what i would ideally want it for- i want an xp computer that makes calls and that fits in my pocket.. one day!

Ew.. XP.

If you load Easy Debian you will get pretty much a complete Linux distro in your pocket to do whatever you need. But If you wanted XP you prolly should have have went WinMo... Not Linux.

I personally choose to use Linux on any device... small or large... over any windows brand.

While I'm not as desperate as the OP and I'm quite willing to be patient while someone works this out (and I'd even pay if the someone were dataviz) I'd loudly second the request for a basic office package. I accept the comment made that people 'won't want' to be writi long documents on something so tiny - but that by no means precludes editing.

I can't use google docs as some of the material I use is rather too confidential to go anywhere near the cloud. I don't trust google.

I guess my question is whether anyone is working on this yet - asked most humbly and politely since I know I'm a useless bear who can't do this for myself.

i dont like win mo- have an htc hd2- it may go back.. i just cannot deal with it.

of course i can edit excel on a win mo- but i still cant convert to pdf- so the functionailty isnt perfect anyway..

i would pay 50 quid to any one that could sort it out for my nokia n900

crack on boys..

fatal what you have to understand is that having to use windows for my business is paramount- there is no other option..

hopefully i can get a vnc type thing going on.

I hate to sound a broken record.. but I am pretty sure Easy Debian could be configured to save to a PDF. You can configure things like Open Office, possible Abiword and Gnumeric as well.. to have a "sudo" printer that goes to PDF. So if you want the ability *right now*.. it may be possible with a little work.

Also to note.. I'm pretty sure eventually Abiword or Gnumeric will make it to native N900 as I am pretty sure we had at least one, if not both, ported for the N810. I just don't know how long it'll take.
