Why N900?

Because XPPHONE runs on WIndows XP*.

*As much as I hate the "enough said" internet idiom, that is truly enough said.

Not my thing at all. I'm like a boy in a candy shop with these new mobile operating systems(OSX, Maemo 5, WebOS and Android) that are build for the mobile use rather than XP or Windows 7.

I have owned N800 and while i liked it i'm all about one device that will make it all and for me that is a mobile phone so i was more than happy when early this year rumours started spreading about the Fremantle and the first device being a phone. Because that's exactly what i have been looking for.

This is just one of those many devices that will pop-up or most likely it wont come out at all and if does it's just not usable and most probally will lack support because 20 people besides you bought it.
I have learned some time ago being a gadget addict that sum of the features don't yet make the device, not even close.

I saw it. So embarassingly ugly - like some trinket at a taiwanese village market.

If the XPphone had a variant with:
  • SDHC card slot (specs don't seem to mention one)
  • ARM CPU
  • Android or Maemo (or Ubuntu with telephony) (even better: VMWare's ARM port, with all 3 of those OSes as guests*)
  • DVI-I instead of VGA
  • T-Mobile USA 3G

Then I'd be interested.

But, with XP and Windows 7 as the OS choices? Sorry, I have self respect, and standards. Those rule out such a device.

(* On the move, I'm not sure if I'd primarily use Android or Maemo, sleeping the other until I need something specific ... but I'm sure I'd only really use Ubuntu when I dock it to a KVM switch -- sort of my pocketable nettop; of course, realistically, even if the rest of this device variant was available, Maemo wouldn't be, so it'd probably be VMWare + Android running most of the time, and waking up Ubuntu as needed)

nice, im sure all those with preorders on that cant wait to get infected with **** loads of viruses and malware. just think of the crappy performance too, especially when having to run full blown av software to avoid the affore mentioned issue. dont get me wrong, id love an x86 based phone i really would but i dont think we're quite there yet with power cosumption vs performance. look at net books, they're not exactly blisteringly fast and we all know how windows likes to have a spazz attack every so offen and spend ten years having a think about opening internet explorer. i think its a nice idea but i think we're a little way off it being a practical reality.
