hi there. i have my N900, finally.
Is there a way to download apps on PC and then transfer them to N900? i dont have internet on the N900. Well, i do, but only gprs.
i have 3-10 wi-fi networks here, but, of course, they are locked.
So, is there a way to download apps on PC and tranfer them to phone?
thanks.

Should be able to use USB to transfer the files to the storage on the N900.. then install them with dpkg. (dpkg -i packagename.deb)

By applications I'm assuming you know you need *.deb apps, preferably from one of the official maemo repositories?

Hrm.. interesting dilema.

Try "sudo gainroot". If not, try "root".

If that doesn't work you'll need to install the "rootsh" package, which of course you need rootsh to install the package by hand ... like circular logic there..

rootsh should be really small.. you sure you cant use the grps to get just that one package?

If you installed rootsh THEN do:

"sudo gainroot" in a terminal.

After that you use dpkg -i...

Well... thread.

Nope, you need to know the path.. that I can't really help you with.. try:

cd /home/user/MyDocs

and run

ls -al

In there... see if there is any hidden directories or your deb files or... I dunno. It'll be wherever you put it when you transferred it from USB .

once that's finished, assuming it didn't error, it's installed. yer done.. give yerself a holiday cookie .

What to do now depends on the package.. if it's proper maemo package it should be in your menu somewhere.

Supertux? really? Is that in the maemo repos? (I don't have an N900, sadly.)
