The post linked shows an idea of what the N900 would be like if it had 9 homescreens
1. This may seem overwhelming (4 is already too much for some), but consider than with one touch/swipe you can access all your apps/widgets/bookmarks.
2. No scrolling through menus, hunting for the app your looking for. Consider than in pressing the menu button is already one motion, and you might stilll need to scroll and find that app. Here, one swipe gets you to the position of your app.
3.From any homescreens 1-9, you can reach the others within one swipe....

good ideas and thoughts, hpefully most of them could be part of next FW-release.
At least some of them
I Like the idea of 3x3 menu and diagonal scrolling with the idea of haveing a central "homescreen"

let's see (and wait for) what the next update(s) will bring tu us as a late x-mas gift ;-)

have some nice hollidays out there

Thats actually awesome. I'de be happy with just horizontal and vertical, I think i'd end up getting lost with the diagonals lool.

I'm sure this looks familiar to anyone who was in Amsterdam at the Maemo Summit. Maemo 6 is supposed to work more or less like this.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Was just an idea, good to know it's not completely crazy.

In terms of how it would work in general day to day, I didn't explain my self too well but:

- you'll have the main homescreen (5)
- the other 8 you would group your apps/widgets etc. e.g. (1) (2) games, (3) for office (4) news apps/widgets (5) whatever (6) = GPS centric/location apps (7) for contacts/messages/emails (etc)

The ability to go from any window is an option but to minimise confusion:

- perhaps the view always returns to main homescreen (number 5) unless you "locked" one of the others as the main view.

Just one idea in between peeling potatoes ^_^...

i think 9 screens are bit to much and can be confusing, but ofcourse nokia could just give you the option..

But i think 5 is a sweet spot

____ 1
2___ 3____ 4
____ 5

so if you are on 3 you can go up/down or left/right with 1 swip
if you then go to left (2) you get this:

____ 1
4___ 2____ 3
____ 5

again everything accessible in 1 swipe if you then go down (5)

____ 2
4___ 5____ 3
____ 1

I think this setup works even faster then the current one where 1 screen is always 2 swipes away.

This was my initial thought with the N97 style homescreens. 5 homescreen, 4 way . It's quicker and less confusing than 9 homescreens. It's the best middle ground I think.

Whilst putting through that video, I just got struck by greedy thought that for me, 9 works even better. But yeah, 5 most definitely in that configuration.

Yup, look broadly like the driving idea behind Maemo 6.
