I had a similar problem. sending mail on my wifi network was fine using my ISP SMTP server (virgin media) but I couldn't send when connected via 3g, sorted this by using my network providers SMTP server (vodafone).

In the mail account config you can set up using a different SMTP server per connection. I'm not sure of this is the same problem you're having but give it a go.

Cheers

Yes you do...now send 3 messages from 3 separate accounts - they all appear in every outbox, NM outbox and POP outboxes. Must be my Nokla N9000.

(glad to see your still carrying a torch from our last encounter -cheers)

I have the same problem with gmail.

Can't send emails using nokia messaging, but I can download my inbox. Also, when I mark emails as read, it does not update it in my gmail either.

I'm just digging on you, Maemo Curmudgeon. Nokia Messaging is like that on all devices. Surprised it took you so long to catch that one. Truce?

Sure. Yeah I know NM is like that and it works that way on my other Nokia's with no other e-mail clients.

But the N900 is running Modest and NM is a "plug-in". In my implementation I have 3 POP accounts that are not set up via NM (since I need to keep more then 30 days of messages in my iinbox). I would have assumed that since the N900 has such strong multi-tasking capabilities that the outbox would be able to multi-thread/task the outbox function to increase the performance of e-mail sending (currently it is serial -FIFO- and if one message gets hung up the others wait) . This may be one of the reasons that people have been reporting issues with e-mail sending?

I will have to test if uninstalling NM will seperate the inboxes. Anyone have Multi Pops/imaps set up without NM that can check this?

I have these two issues, too. Anyone find a solution?

same here. But difference in mine is the plain text gets sent no problem but if I have any attachment like pictures or something I cannot send it just sits at the outbox, Same thing with imap and NM, both using Gmail.

Looks like we are not going to find any solution to this. Unless OP changes the thread heading that bashes N900.

I've had similar problems with sending emails out as well and I found this report on bugs.maemo.org.

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5503

I believe that some people are using exchange and nokia messaging with the same email address and this is causing the email to be sent to two outboxes where it sits in limbo.

If this describes your situation please vote for this bug and also there's a temporary workaround posted there.

I am able to successfully sent message from my N900 via gmail. Ensure that the outgoing mail smtp is properly set. Then, you'd need to go to your outbox and click the top and select "send/receive" and your message will be sent.
