Nope. Still unwatchable.

I begin to wonder if the problem isn't with the laptop/vista.

I will try installing handbrake on the XP device in the morning, in the hope that that will run more smoothly. Bagpuss is a unwatchable as the wombles were. Thanks for trying though.

The file in the wiki... it's opens in my browser. Do I just copy it into a text file, save and then rename as a .plist?
(You think you're running out of idea? I ran out ages ago... But THANK YOU for trying.)

Right Click -> Save Target As

Something like that.. it should save as a .plist.

Otherwise.. yeah.. Just paste it into Notepad, then do File->Save As.. change the "File Type:" box from Text File to "All Files" and then add .plist to the end yourself.

It should save it as a plist file. If you don't change the File Type drop down it will save it as a .plist.txt ... because hey.. Windows know better than you

Actually, it doesn't.

Firefox doesn't offer me 'save target' at all, and IE (spit) saves it as an XML. So windows isn't as smart as it likes to think.

Bastler,

Thanks for your detailed list of options there... I will compare that with my other preset and see what differences there are in windows. I have learned that the windows handbrake != Ubuntu's handbrake, unfortunately.
Ok, I tried to rip 'Chariots of Fire' from DVD with the imported settings but the complete file ended up being 13GB and could not play in Windows Media Player afterwards. I have not been able to move a file that large to the N900 previously but pretty much know if it won't play in WM then it won't work.

Wow... it was larger than the source? That is.. odd.

Check the "Video" tab for the preset you imported... it should specify 600 in the bitrate field.
