this should be competitors considering its about any random touch phone and not really anything to do with maemo

5800 is damn cheap and offers good features for the price if you want just a phone to hold till Maemo 6 release. Thought i would go defienetly for non touch phones if that's what you are looking for.

Depends on your carrier. Depends on what you mean by "cheap" (paying up front, subsidized, etc.).

My gf just got a refurb iPhone for $50. But that's subsidized, locked, and on AT&T. And it's an iPhone.

You could probably find a Mytouch 3G or G1 on ebay for cheap-ish, if you want T-Mobile.

I'm in a similar boat. I'm looking for a cheap handset that can do SIP via WiFi. It seems that the cheapest devices that fit this spec are ~$300. At that point, I may as well upgrade to the N1 for the additional $200 as it'll likely have a longer life and be a better over-all experience. I'm really hoping that I can find something for $100-$200.

As the price nears $200, I'm more inclined to just go for the N1.

At this point, I could care-less weather or not it's android/maemo/winmo/symbian/osx, new or used, authentic or knockoff, so long as it isn't annoying to use and can fill those requirements well.

}:^)~
