email and im are my primary tools for communication..

off course these plus skype are gonna be getting more and more used..

surely this is one of the reasons we have phones like these..

i honestly dont understand why people are still banging on about mms and stuff that own this phone..i dont understand why you would want this phone in the first place.

For many years you've been able to send chained SMS on every phone I've used, which raises the SMS limit to about 700 characters.

With a good plan, that's still cheaper than MMS because good plans have unlimited SMS included in the monthly rental...

I don't especially want MMS: I chose this phone for me. But I'm not so selfish that I can't see other people wanting it. One day someone will send me an MMS and it will be a pain that I don't get it. Because not everyone has an n900. These devices are about communication. And not all the people I communicate with are up-to-the-minute all-out geeks. In fact, the only geeks I communicate are on here and in IRC.

What part of 'This is a useful feature for Joe Public, it would be good to have it' don't you get? I chose the n900 knowing full well that it was missing this feature (unlike the poor souls who apparently were told by Amazon US that it did before they ordered!) I'm not jumping up and down demanding it. I'm seeing the value for many use-cases, and waiting, calmly and patiently for someone to develop it.

But neither am I saying "people shouldn't waste effort on this because I don't want it." You know what? No-one should make any effort whatsoever to improve Ovi maps or the GPS experience. And voice-turn-by-turn is a complete waste of space. Everyone should live in a place where they can find their way around and be able to read a paper map, just like I do. Who needs GPS? I don't!

See... that's how it sounds.

No problem. My Granny was a wonderful lady, but pen and paper were too technological for her. She never owned a cell phone.

i still cant get over this..

this phone has widgets that can upload photos straight onto the web, and dedicated photo sites- it can stream video live to the web..

and people still want mms..

the bugs on the phone need to be fixed first..

then important stuff like mapping.

i would also like the intergrated im being able to use hotmail.

the phone needs to sort out its supposed flash- its a bit sad that the n900 supposedly uses flash and the iphone doesnt-- well try and explain that to someone streaming an iplayer ep on there iphone, when you cant..

mms is down the list for me..

way down

of course it should be an option- i am sure that the networks want it more than anyone else(more money for them) mind

Yes, I've been using that for many years. But the last time I checked, it becomes quite more expensive with my current operator.

Yes because it's about communication. And not everyone has an n900. Maybe you have no friends? No-one you ever want to communicate with? Because that's how it begins to sound...

Nokia - connecting people (but only those with top of the range phones...) it's not so catchy. is it!

yes kathy thats the reason .. jeas

the nokia has many more ways to communicate- sending a pic via txt isnt communicating in my book..

the phone needs loads sorting out- mms is not an important factor.

if you need it sooo much get a phone you can cope with

MMS can be an important update to have on N900 but right now MMS is not too important. Since we all are wanting our N900 to be usable in portrait mode right? It's better and more convenience when you can type using just one hand to replying messages and operate the device.

But it would be nice to have it both coming. Most importantly is to get all the bug fix before any functionality, and providing video chat using Pidgin or aMSN, Office Suite...etc. those are the killer apps. MMS is not a killer app. The desktop porting apps that made the N900 invincible over other smart phone in the market at the moment.

You clearly don't understand that Communication is a two-way event. It requires you with your clever phone at one end and another person. And the other person may not have have your clever phone and your great cleverness to recieve your pearls of wisdom sent via the net or streamed or whatever. And that's why even clever phones in the hands of clever people like yourself need to be able to do dumb things.

There have been many times that my n900 has shown me my ignorance, and there are many things about it I can't cope with. But you know what? In the end, it's about communication. And that matters to me a hell of a lot more than whether I can do fancy clever linux things. If I can't use it to communicate, then it's just a brick.

Everyone has different priorities for what should be the first thing developed: portrait mode? I don't need it. maps? I never use them. MMS? not for me....

Why must Nokia see your priorites as the top ones? Why not someone else's?
