Music player definitely need an equalizer or/and a list of sound presets.
i expected using my N900 as a MP3 player but the sound quality is too flat... we should able to pump it with more bass

Creating playlists:
Have an option by pressing the menu bar, "add songs to playlist", which allows you to select which songs to add to a previously or "now playing" playlist, similarly to how you can "share" multiple photos at a time.

This doesn't seem to work too well at the moment. I have roughly 2500 songs on my N900. I'd hope that typing would bring up pre-tagged music/video files by album, artist and song name.
I do agree that there should be an independent search function though.
As for the other suggestion, definitely should be implemented.

As for the first, I meant being able to select multiple songs without having to select each one individually, and afterwards - ideally - being able to reorder the playlist.

I have exactly the opposite! at my place it is a big mess because it shows as Song artist when i show by "artist"
It is one big mess...I have loads of "Artist Name", 1 Album, 1 song
really annoying. I really want only Album artist, my whole collection on my Media Center and laptop are based on this.

Another one options to add to music player is "play by folder".
Some people don't use tags, rate, etc., they just store their music collection in folders and listen to them "by folder".

id like to know why some of my vid files have an image, but most dont? The ones that do, the image changes depending on when i stopped the file the last play. Which is cool. I assume it will be to do with different file types, and the N900 only capturing an image file for standard AVI for instance.
The music's fine, I dont have too much of a prob, but the vid side of things needs work. Folders, categories ect. favourites, ratings would be cool too.
Its all just a matter of time though, some one will figure it out, or Nokia will change it in an update, its still very very very early days for the life of the N900
