Awesome, I didn't even notice that the game resumes where you left off when you quit the game. That solves the problem perfectly. Thanks so much!

Gjeweled is great, thanks for bringing it to testing! The first time I ran it, though, it froze when I tried to quit. ctrl+backspace only showed the task manager icon on the top left but clicking it wouldn't do anything so I had to restart the phone. Only thing I can think of as the cause of the problem is that I was running the media player at the same time, but I haven't been able to reproduce the error...

Its a very good efford and nice game. Gratz

Additional features that maybe can be added in a new version:
1. save the high scores
2. add a quit button on the left up corner of the screen
3. improve the graphic side of game and
4. give more score when u hit 4 and 5 jewels(ex. 25 for 4 and 50 for 5)

tnx for your time

Oh my! I d/led this from extras tonight. That's a seriously addictive timewaster! There go a few more hours I shall never see again.

First off, just to remind people there are two gweled versions around. One is called Battle Gweled and has no sound. I didn't investigate much more than that. The look and play is very similar, which is not surprising given the same upstream source at some point.

I think Mikkov is the maintainer of that one.

The one i'm maintaining is called just Gweled, and is (so far) only in Extras-Testing. It has sound and music (which can be turned off), timed and untimed gameplay modes, autosave/restore, and high score (one for each game mode). The choice of game mode and the sound seemed reason enough to resurrect the project even with the similar Battle Gweled already in the repo. I much prefer to play with sound effects, even if the music sometimes has to be turned off to preserve sanity.

Hmm, i've heard of problems with other games using SDL_MIXER in combination with the media player, but it seems to be very infrequent. Let me know if you get it to happen again, especially if you can reproduce it regularly.

Are you referring to Gweled? It has a high score and a very accessible quit button... I was trying to figure out a way to make the board bigger but it's really not worth the trouble for the few pixels i'd gain by moving the timer, and it still wouldn't make room for the standard Hildon buttons, either.

The graphics are about the same between both versions and about the same as i remember for Bejeweled, so i'm not really sure what you're expecting.

The scoring could be tweaked, if i get more people who care about it. I thought it already did give bonuses for >3 but i haven't checked. I just know there was an awful lot of code dedicated to scoring, and some comments like // This needs to be fixed. and // This will be a pain to fix. lol

I don't remember the way Bejeweled scored, so if you think it should be different, go ahead and explain how and it might happen at some point.

And, to keep this on top, let me recopy it here:

Testers

I have promoted Gweled to Extras-testing. That means that i consider it ready for end users. It's up to the testers to verify that is true.

If you are willing to be a tester, please read about the Extras-Testing repo and make sure the package meets the criteria in the QA Checklist. The testing vote/report page is here.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

Wow, you're getting faster. Already 6 positive testing reports in out of 10! Great work. This will be in Extras in no time.

Todo for next version:
  • Font size
  • Scoring?
  • ?

game crashes when you press task switching shortcut (ctrl + bksp). Also, I don't hear music or sound regardless of how much i toggle the options.

Thanks for the report.

Actually, Backspace is mapped to quit right now, so that's intended behavior. Maybe there are enough ways to quit without that?

You have to start a game and make a move before the music starts, that is something to fix. You're saying it never starts though? You don't have your volume set to zero, do you?

@Flandry:
I really like this version. My only complaint is that I find it somewhat difficult to read the score value due to the font and/or colour, and quite impossible to read the end-of-game message that pops up in the middle of the game itself.
