It's just unnecessary IMHO. But, it is a fine alternative until someone makes a *real* app that can do it. It will load faster, run faster, and won't require someone to have an "always on" internet device to use it. Some people use their N900's without SIM's or without data plans: What do they do when they need a timer somewhere they don't have wifi?
You could save it, I had that flash file saved on my n800 but I always forgot to use it and used eggtimer instead. >.>

To each his own. However, the next generation of web apps will include an offline component that will allow apps (designed to take advantage of this, of course) to work without being connected. As processor speed and memory become more generous, the performance handicap will matter less for an increasing number of apps. Also, as the various web specs and APIs become more full featured, these apps will have increasing capabilities.

Love it or hate it, the zero-install, zero-configure, easy-test, and low-risk nature of the web app gives it a distinct advantage over the more traditional stock in a great number of cases -- and the number of cases is increasing.

Anyone trying to compare Nexus vs N900, let me give you a piece of advice. I have in past used many HTC phones which also made the google phone, my last one was Diamond 2. The moment you take your sim out of a HTC and put it in the N900, you can tell the call quality difference. Dont believe me, have someone listen to you on any HTC and then have them listen to you on N900. I am sorry but you just cant compare taiwanese manufacturer to finish....PERIOD. Now try comparing the wifi and bluetooth signals on both phone, again the answer is very obvious. N900 has shown me wifi networks in my area which no other phone has come close. Dont go for gimmicks, Nokia has been making phones for ages, you can,t beat that experience.

Here's my take on Android vs Maemo. I had the first android phone, the G1. Still do by the way. Out the box, the Android was the much more polished OS. It was easily the best phone I ever had. I actually use both the g1 and n900. They make great companions with each other. Anything phone related I use my g1, for surfing and all that good stuff, I use the n900. Wish the n900 could connect to bluetooth tether because wifi tether from my g1 drains the battery so much.

Err I think most of the N900s were manufactured in Korea though. It just says "Designed in Finland".

I have the Nexus and the N900. Had the N900 from first day Nokia NYC started selling to the public and just got the Nexus One. They each have their pros and cons. I like the size of the Nexus and I didn't realize how much I missed typing with one hand in portrait mode. I also miss applications. I've heard the argument that because the N900 has a full browser that there is no need for applications but I disagree. These screens are so small that applications make navigating for a particular task easier.

With that being said, I find myself liking Maemo more than Android. The Nexus looks a lot sexier than the N900, the live wall paper is cool, but I like how the N900 organizes my contacts, my messages, and I even like the email pop ups.

Phone-wise, I find the Nokia is a better phone. The sound quality is better than HTC's. I also noticed that the N900's wi fi antenna is stronger.

I may just send the Nexus back and get an iPod Touch to do what the N900 can't (casual gaming, play the iTunes protected music and video)

Good idea. If only one could make a desktop link to it that would be perfect.

The nicest I've seen is ThisTime, also on SourceForge. It has count up, count down, and clock functions. Unfortunately it's in Java but if someone wants to take a look it's at:

Without a SIM card, it's certainly vastly more expensive than the most expensive N800 at its most expensive period in time.
