I miss the 0.3 version...
How about make it so it says:

[ICO] Connection Mode
3G

or whatever. ICO being icon, 3g being whichever status, Connection Mode or whatever you chose being the title. Like bluetooth and other normal built in applets mate.

Thanks for this but how to ignore 0.4 update on application manager? I don't want it to show up there all the time.

Okay.. a little bug with finnish version of N900 (see the attachment).
Can it be hard coded just to output "dual" -text instead of what language user has running on his device?

I think 2 buttons + current status would be cleaner and more user friendly.

Dual/GSM/3G/Offline [GSM][3G]

Nice idea or not?

people need to understand the benefit of dual mode. It is really handy when you have bad 3g signal and don't want to drop calls.

I must've changed its layout 3-5 times already. I'm not doing it anymore. Which now means you have three choices:
  • Install 0.3-1 which only switches between 2G/3G mode but looks more "integrated".
  • Install the version that was put up earlier in this thread, allowing Dual mode to be selected via a selector.
  • Don't use it all. I couldn't care less. The source code is available; "fix" it yourself.

Yep... I thought about it after it was too late. >.<

I'll just get 0.4-1 to use the localised names, but insert ellipses if the label is too big.

Oh, and for people who really don't know how to use their phones, you do realize the same setting is available in Control Panel->Phone->Network mode, right?

Okay, great!

And thanks again for creating this handy little applet

Yes, i'm a bit puzzled too by all these requests to drop the dual button and only have 2G and 3G modes.

In a 2-button version, the 2 buttons should be 2G and Dual. In 2G mode, the phone will only connect in 2G (GPRS or EDGE) even if 3G is available. This would save power. In Dual mode, the phone would connect in 3G / 3.5G if available. If there was no 3G coverage available, it would automatically fallback to 2G, which would be the expected behaviour for most people i guess.

Unless I'm missing something, the 3G mode on the other side is of little use IMHO. 3G mode means that the phone connects in 3G if 3G coverage is available but doesn't connect at all if there's no 3G coverage. I'm failing to see where this could be useful. Feel free to enlighten me though.

Anyway, thanks a lot to qwerty12 for this great applet. The 2 / 3 button version is great.
