It might be someone that have said this before me but i bet it can help someone.

First when i noticed the 2009.44-1 i did the update over my old settings using App Manager using the phone over wlan.
15mb or something. All related to the update went well.

After some thought i decided to to a complete flash.

I followed the instructions here and did first eMMCvanillaxxx.bin then the Firmwarexxxx.bin file.
https://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware

Yes i know bla bla about eMMC, but its total annoying that a flash dosent scrap everything. Thats what i wanted so thats what i did.

1. eMMC flash went like a dream a min or so.
2. Firmware flash went like a dream a min or so.

Then i somehow decided to go for the NokiaSoftwareUpdater.exe (NSU) to get the complete image 160mb, not just a patch 15mb.

3. NokiaSoftwareUpdater did download and start

15min remaining for about 20min...
7min remaining for about 30min...
1sec remaining for 30min before i pulled the cable, turned off the phone and killed NokiaSoftwareUpdater(latest) ... and i am not really a patient guy

4. Grab the bin file downloaded by NSU from here on your PC Win XP on the box i used for flashing.

"%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer\A\nsl_service_module_00001\vpls\www.dsut.onl ine.nokia.com.oti.caresuite\Products\rx-51"

Dir containing (in My case Norway)

RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.44-1_PR_LEGACY_MR0_ARM.bin 160mb <---------------- this one

RX51_0587236_1.2009.44.1_001.dcp

RX51_0587236_1.2009.44.1_001.vpl

RX51_0587236_1.2009.44.1_001_signature.bin

Get the file that is about 160mb and use it with the flasher tool (in my case) flasher-3.5.exe

5. Flawlessly flashed in about 1min.

6. Now get hold of your backups and restore back what you need.

7. Nothing touched what was on my microSD card

Hope this helps someone

Alternatively, you can try downloading the firmware through navifirm. Get it here:
http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php?topic=1255.0

You can get full firmwares through this software, from the Nokia Firmware Repositories servers. Then use the usual tools to reflash.

This is exactly what happened to me with the NokiaSoftwareUpdater.

Stayed on 1 second remaining indefinitely.
