I suspect a good proportion of the Maemo team would agree, but they might simply be too busy to change their process. It's not that easy to change the way you do things on this scale, even when you are sure it's a good idea. After all there is still a systematic QA process needed, however releases are done.
Still the lack of communication is disappointing.

My guess would be this is also a dry run on how well the infrastructure copes when everyone updates at once
