Ok so now evince is in one of the 'standard' repos, got it installed fine. Now the question: Where to configure the up/down keys to work as page up/page down? Without that it's as tricky to use as the built-in viewer..

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question. But you can scroll continuously by holding down the appropriate navigation button. That's a huge improvement on the built-in viewer, IMO.

Thanks, etrunko.

That's what I do, but I don't find it very useful. I'll look around a bit to see if it leaves some config file somewhere.

Hi TA-t3,

Not very sure what you mean...how is being able to scroll to the next page, not very useful?

It doesn't go to the next page, it just scrolls down in a jerky way and eventually arrives at the next page (with tearing effects too). It's pretty painful. Instead, I want the 'down' button to simply go directly to the next page. I have set Opera up that way, which IMO makes it immensely more user friendly.

To scroll down 1/2 page at a time, simply use the central navigation button.

Hi TA-t3,

If you're using the latest 0.8.1 version of Evince

http://downloads.maemo.org/product/evince/

and face tearing issues etc. You can submit a bug report so that it can be looked into. That way, you contribute to getting a better viewer out, and hopefully one that will suit your needs well.

0.8.1 is a BIG improvement. it seems to load the page up and down of the one you are browsing so scrolling is way better now

Any chance to get the next version of Evince for the N800 to support CBR/CBZ files?

Nevermind, I did a little more searching and found this link which says to install this file from a terminal as root using dpkg.
Code:
dpkg - i shared-mime-info_0.17-0indt1_armel.deb
Worked like a charm!
Now I just need to catch up on...oh, about 20 years worth of comic books.

I managed to install unzip and unrar so that Evince could handle CBR and CBZ files. However, I found that it took quite a long time to open those files...and after that, i had to scroll alot to read the comics due to the orientation (some comics don't go left to right...it sometimes takes up and down frames etc). Anyway, in the end, I simply unzipped/unrared the comics on my laptop into folders using WinRAR and then copied the jpegs etc over to my N800. I then used the Image Viewer that comes with it to view. It displays the page in 90 degree orientation, showing me the full page...which is ok for me, cos I can see the whole page at 1 go without scrolling and yet be able to read the words.
