Unplugging the headphones is the quickest way to stop the player (no need to unlock the device, navigate to the media player and stop the song). This is in fact the way the Apple products do it. In the N810 there was a deamon that took care of this for those of us who needed this feature. Perhaps something similar can be implemented?

thanks!

Please, dont STOP a song, PAUSE is even better. So you can resume it easy at the point it stopped playing.

No need to brainstorm - headphoned is what you want: http://thpinfo.com/2009/headphoned/

The Fremantle version is in the works, I'm just struggling with getting the upstart script working

FYI: headphoned 1.5 is now in Extras-Devel for Fremantle (Maemo 5). Usage is simple: Install and it will automatically send a PAUSE signal to Media Player, MPlayer and Panucci (whatever's running at the moment) when the 3.5mm jack detects an "unplugged" event.

Package page: http://maemo.org/packages/view/headphoned/

Happy public transit situation-avoiding!

Awesome,

Would it be possible to detect other events such as button presses as well?
