I always managed to do the initial sync with calendar and contacts. But after adding or changing events in the server side sync failed forever (until I deleted the MFE account and recreated it again).
I just tested it and updates in the server are updated in the N900 calendar and the sync is successful.
Didn't test it on the contacts though.
