I called Nokia. I was given a reference number. They want me to return to buy.com but doubt the online store will accept it since I took the UPC and send in for rebate. As per their return policy on website all has to be intact including UPC. If there's something missing their warehouse will return it back to me. I explain to nokia about the rebate and they told me to try.

I'm calling Nokia again for return/repair. How long does it take for them to repair?

Also should I remove the clear protector on my phone? I have the full body protector wrap around the phone. Hate to remove it since it was a pain applying the plastic. Will it void the warranty?

I checked your messages and looks like that you have tried to reflash, but you didnt give helpers any feedback except that it doesn't work. I would really much like to help you more, but I need information.

- What Os are you running and is it 32 or 64bit
- Do you have ANY nokia software installed on your computer?
- Do you have any other devices (exept mouse and keyboard) attached to your usb. Even usb hubs?

Please describe in detail that where it fails when you are trying to use CMD flash utility?

OS is vista 32 bit

I initially used the nokia software updater. Status was 15 mins left (but it took more than 1 hour), then 1 sec left (waited for 2 hours) and stuck on the 1 sec. left.

I followed what I was told on reflash. download and install the flasher. Download the file. Press "u" key and plug usb. Nokia word without backlight appeared and usb icon. On PC start, all programs, maemo, cmd flasher, then flasher-3.5.exe -F (the long file name) -f -R (hit enter), the prompt me to allow or cancel. Click allowed. After that a very brief screen of less than 1 sec appeared (couldn't catch what's on there). Then nothing happened. phone wasn't doing anything. All I saw was the steady status light and the nokia word without backlight. Tried couple of times but got the same result. Now even if I press the "U" key and insert the usb I get a blank screen. waited and nothing happens. Release the U key the phone vibrates, status light turns on steadily, goes off, vibrates, nokia word on screen with no backlight. Does it over and over again.

Do i need to remove the body protector (clear plastic protector) I installed/applied on the phone? I worried it might void the warranty.

It could be that your battery is not fully charged and it refuses to flash. btw. Did you tried to take off battery for awhile and do whole process again?

[offtopic]
Almost every single person who has come here to ask help for bricked device tells that they were using NSU. I think that there is something really fckd up there.

i took the battery 15- 20 mins ago. In this situation how do i know the battery is charging?

When I plug the usb, the status light (yellow/orange) will remain on for a while, the phone will vibrate, then after couple of minutes the status light will go off, then there are times the screen will blank (the nokia screen without backlight disappear). repeat the same process over and over. So i don't know if my phone's charging.

Also before i did the update through NSU the battery was almost full.

this is the same situation I'm in, and I'm currently waiting for a desktop battery charger to come from eBay, (which won't be until next week). My phone does the same thing, just reboots. Hold down 'u' doesn't put it into flash mode... so yours is probably the battery too

I'll get a desktop charger from ebay. so it does drain the battery that much from updating? I had the battery almost full.

Is the low battery the reason why nothing happens when I click "allow" to run reflash program but nothing happens?

added to say: The sellers from Hong Kong and I'm in NY, USA

@Bugslife

I sorted by 'nearest seller' and paid $9.00 for a US seller. I hope the battery life is our problem.

If I had a dollar every time I helped someone who couldn't flash/repair their device because the battery was flat even though they thought it was charged, I'd have about $10..

that asides, I don't think the phone will charge the battery unless the OS is booted.. I think it is deceptive.. and flashing (or doing anything with flasher-3.5) becomes more and more unreliable the lower the battery..

I'm lucky, gf has a 5800 so I always have a backup.. but so far, I've not needed to flash
