quick read whole thread. why everyone is worried here? there are other n900 forums few or none was reporting same issue. in this thread, only ppl with pre-production devices reported thee issue. plus, nokia says the issue is addressed. i wont do anything to my cable connector until i see real proof that it still a problem.

1. the problem is catastrophic, not minor
2. it's occurring more frequently than you seem to realize
3. it's occurring on very new devices
4. and yes, it has been reported to occur on production devices

There is very real cause for concern here, and it mounts with every new reported incident

clearly you didn't read whole thread, there are people with production units got it ripped out as well and pictures are worth 1000s words and it shows that there is no true fix in place,

I have conveyed the concern to the Maemo Devices team. Hopefully they take it seriously.

Well if there is something to worry about I will find it. This I am really worried about. Before even reading this on my first ever charge I noticed it was extremely hard to remove without the thought of something being damaged. So that in mind and after reading everything I can find I filed down my clips. I used a small grinder and just moved the clips close enough until they were almost down flush. I think getting rid if the hook part is the main thing. I did my CA-146c adapter first as it is easily replaceable and took the clips right down. It still feels very firm but not scary to remove. I then did the charger but left the now flat clips a little higher to get a slightly more secure feel. The CA-146c did feel as though in a car charging sutuation it may wiggle free, but then again maybe I was just used to the crazy tight fit before. I have not done my transfer cable yet but will do. I really didn't want to have to do this but being in New Zealand with an imported one (even though the retailer promised a local 12 month warranty) I have to do everything to prevent the usb port being damaged I can. I really hope it is not an issue with mine. My N900 was made in Korea 48/2009 2101 and the last 6 imei digits are 508395

same thing happened with my usb port aswell it came out the same way like in these another cases i have read from here..it has past two weeks and im still waiting my phone. and im not even sure is nokia taking care of this matter or are they sending my useles phone back without doing nothing. well if thats the case i sure will copy past this page from them with my complains about their so called “warranty”

it is hard to remove the charger and i have charged lots of time now and the usb port is still in place. mine's production week is week 50.

i just tried to plug in and out with my n97 charger it seems much easier to remove. is it possible becase the chargers which are distributed with n900 have stronger hook chip(possible defects)?

btw my n97 charger has black fasten strip on the wire anmy n900 has white.

At last nokia recover my faith on it´s warranty and repair my sweet n900 !!! so all those people who are waiting their broken phones with the same fault that i had with my phone,, you are free to use my case against those battles... i wish you all the best with your warranty issues

how are they fixing this ? are they just replacing the unit with a standard unit ? if this is the case its going to break again....

Its not so much the "charger cable" as much as its the "USB data cable", as it has an additional set of "pins". However as stated, the Nokia connector pins are larger than other mfg. cable connectors (e.g. my Motorola Q's microUSB connectors). The tighter fit, combined with the ports' housing coming apart at the "crimped-seam" (not welded) is also cause for concern.
